Our experience working with Marie was several years in the making. Marie, Petra, and the team began working with us in early Covid when my husband and I called them on a whim as we biked by a house we liked. From that summer in 2020 until we finally closed on a home in May 2024, we were treated with care, kindness, and honesty. At her core, Marie is an investment advisor, excellent at handling a balance of assets and investment with the needs of both first time and experienced home buyers. Her goal is to see financial success for her clients, and a starting point is getting into the housing market. She is extremely communicative while also not overwhelming buyers with info they don’t need. She makes herself available to guide you through the process whenever needed, nights, weekends, phone, text, email, whatever is needed and whatever it takes. Our situation was not straightforward and Marie and her team were able to corral all the needed resources to make closing on a home happen for us. One of those resources included recommending a realtor Marie has worked with for years. The combination of those two women was an unstoppable powerhouse. They were able to keep things behind the scene that we as buyers didn’t need to be burdened with, and they looped us in when we needed to make decisions or provide input. Marie is a tremendous advocate who guided us through a complicated foreign, stressful process. She CARES genuinely. She is not just with you through escrow, she is a financial asset beyond the closing of your home. She is a wealth of knowledge and we are so very grateful we were able to work with her team. Guess we were the wrong clientele for them. Louise called us on a Saturday night, not too long after we sent an inquiry looking for assistance with mortgage shopping. We were impressed with her quick response, but she was on the pushy side when we said we could not talk as we were on our way to an event. We asked if we could speak another time and she did not sound very receptive and kept asking us questions as we were driving. I almost had to be rude to get off the phone with her. It did not matter to her that we were in the middle of something. Finally said wed call her back, which we did on Monday. Oddest experience Ive ever had with a broker (I have purchased homes in the past). She asked multiple questions, feeling us out, some that really did not feel appropriate or necessary for the service we were looking for. Could not help but feel she was judgemental. I see shes a pillar of Whatcom County, but she seemed more on the snooty side. After keeping me on the phone for almost an hour, she suddenly said she had to go and hung up. We never heard back from her! So, we went with another local broker and got our mortgage approved in no time flat. Really felt Louise was just screening us to see if we were the type of client they wanted to work with - if we were the type they want to see living in Whatcom County (she acted as if we were new to the area... weve been here almost a decade). This firm should just put in their advertisements that they are looking for wealthy homebuyers and investors only. Should have read their reviews as that would have given me an inkling as to the clientele they prefer to serve. Based on our experience, I cant recommend this company. Louise made us feel like we were below her and she didnt even have the professional decency to call us back or at least say Sorry, I dont think we can help you. Thats okay. Id rather work with a firm that truly wants to help others obtain home ownership. When we sell our current home to move into our new one, I will make sure I recommend the lender who was willing to help us and treated us with respect. We gave them a stellar review.

Marie is beyond amazing. She does a great job of getting to know you as a person and what it is that you are trying to accomplish. She is thorough when explaining all of your options while illustrating the impacts each option would have. She makes herself available at a variety of times that make her much more accessible and she will become your advocate and a wonderful resource if you need her. Working with Marie was one of the best decisions I made and I cant wait to work with her again! Edit 1 - July 2023: I came back to Marie and team for a new loan was not disappointed. The entire team worked very hard and diligently on this loan for me and it made the whole process very easy for me to navigate. Always very responsive and detailed with communications and checked in with me at several points along the way to make sure I was aware of where I was in the process and if I had any questions. It was a very personalized approach that is so far above and beyond what I have ever received before with others. Stumbled on Marie at random when we started looking to refinance our home and wow did we get lucky! She and her team were incredibly responsive, helpful, quick, informative and fun. We have a complicated situation with me having lost my job just as we started the process and us having some high $$ debt, but Marie worked on it, got creative, and we were able to lower our interest rate and even get out the exact amount of cash we needed to be able to buy some land. Wow! That s just the start of it! We recently decided to refinance our home. Marie helped us 12 years ago buy our first home. And because she was so knowledgeable and through we decided to call her for a refinance. Even though we had a few bumps on our credit, she was the human touch to get the job done. Moving forward 30 days after we refinanced, a perfect home came available. Not feeling confident we could do it, we call Marie again! And again she walked us through another approval. During the entire process, she was our bulldog. She got us in contact with one of the best real estate agents for the area we were looking to buy in. Being a first time homebuyer, I really didnt know what I was getting myself into. I read a lot of reviews and forums on what to look for and what NOT to look for when shopping for a mortgage loan, and ended up contacting Marie and Team first. Sure glad I did too, because that was the only phone call I needed to make. Marie and her team were an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. Dawn, Petra, Mike, Louise, Marie, everyone! I really couldnt of asked for a better experience. They even made it possible for me to sign a couple days early so I could attend a trip I had planned a few months prior! Special shout-out to Marie, aka mortgage wizard. I ABSOLUTELY would not have a home right now if it wasnt for her. My process was a peculiar one and she didnt bat an eye. Summary: Easiest, Fastest, Friendliest Story: We have done a mortgage or refinance 8 times now. Every single other one has been a slog through the underwriter underworld. We had good customer service one other time, but the experience was marred by the pain and hassle of it all. If you have never done this before, lean on the experience of others who have and understand that your rate is somewhat universal. Your EXPERIENCE is what you are shopping for. Being in our 4th house we have owned, I can say with wisdom that a bad mortgage experience will test you and your relationships. That sounds dramatic, but you have to remember that buying a house or hunting a great rate is an exciting thing. When something negative happens in the process of buying or refinancing, that is where the rubber meets the road...and whether you are driving that car or under it s tires. To be frank, I was blown away and at times baffled by the level of care, concern and thoughtfulness that I experienced with Fairway. It just doesn t happen in this industry. I was skeptical when I saw they only have 5 star reviews, but since that is nearly impossible, I just couldn t pass up calling them. Understand, I am a salesman for a living, I shop things pretty hard, but after this, I will never go anywhere else. Dawn - Fantastic customer service. She was our first contact. Never once got any what now? front desk/front lines attitude or vibe. I could see the smile on her face through the phone, that is a unique talent. Petra - I have to say here that every person I met seemed perfectly suited for their role. Petra is no exception. The paperwork, application phase of the mortgage process is hard for first timers and even repeats. You need someone on point, organized and concise. To be able to balance that A type need with a joy for your job and love of the customer is absolutely unparalleled in my experiences with other companies. Marie - I wasn t sure what the big boss would be like, lol, but what do you know she is just as fantastic as this whole thing could be. She laid out several options, gave great advise. Was never condescending, rude or abrupt. Instead, kind, patient and knowledgeable. She is the type that will love that she has the smaller part in all this, because her true accomplishment is her team. Louise - And I m not done. UPDATE: 11/2019 - Just finalized our refi with Marie. Wow, just wow! Much easier than original mortgage since a refi, but again so easy and boy did she get us a good rate and saved us a lot of cash. Highly recommend using a mortgage broker and specifically Marie at Fairway, just makes the process so much less stressful. Love her and Fairway!!! 4/2018 - Marie Bjornson and her Fairway Mortgage Team are hard-working, accurate, and thorough. Like many I think, we came in with our own set of challenges and through Maries creative thinking, dedication and initiative we were able to secure a mortgage and close on-time. Buying a house and securing a mortgage is nothing less than high-anxiety. I personally had more than one melt-down during the process and Marie and her team were wonderful and patient, talking me through the steps, answering all of my questions and allying the fears that arose. For at least three years, we wanted to move from Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the Bellingham, Washington, area. We drove the 2,600 miles twice in the past three years to scope out the area in advance of my June 2017 retirement from teaching. When we put our house on the market in Chattanooga, our real estate agent suggested Carol Cattle of Windermere Realty who in turn referred us to Marie Bjornson and Fairway Mortgage. From the moment we started communicating with Marie and her team in mid-July 2017, she kept in regular contact, shepherding us through a process we were, frankly, daunted by. The level of kindness, knowledge, professionalism, and support provided by Fairway was remarkable, particularly in light of the fact that I was preparing to leave everything I had known and loved for over 60 years to make a new life near the 49th Parallel. Marie and her fine folk worked seamlessly with our real estate agent in Bellingham, and, other than the personal anxiousness of awaiting closing and moving in, the entire process from when we left Chattanooga on October 27, 2017, in a 26-foot U-Haul truck with a Prius and 13-year-old dog in tow until we took possession of our new house on December 20 was nothing short of trouble-free. I kept bracing for, as we way in the South, the other shoe to drop, but Fairway kept us ahead of the curve with application deadlines, etc., that were easy to keep. The sellers of our new home requested the long closing date for personal reasons, and we were more than happy to wait for what we wanted, so the two months we rented a place with the bulk of our possessions in storage passed quickly, largely because there were no hitches in the mortgage process. I cannot say enough about how happy we ve been with Marie and Fairway. They were always accessible, and they patiently answered all of our no doubt worrisome questions. I just worked with one of the real estate agents that Marie recommends, and am so thrilled. I found the home I wanted but it sold before I could make an offer. A few weeks later that same property came back on the market. My real estate agent (along with Marie ) helped me jump on it before others put in offers. My husband and I were ready to take the next step in our life. We wanted to buy our first home. I knew nothing about buying a house! So I got on the phone and started to call around. Most people I talked to sounded too busy to answer my questions and just wanted me to fill out the application right away. Then I call Fairway and I spoke with Louise. She was so kind and patient with me. We set up an appointment to meet with Marie. When we met with Marie she walked us threw everything! She found out what we wanted and what we were comfortable with. All of my questions were answered even if they were silly. I would call or text her and she always replied promptly! We did hit a bump in the road through this process though and had to wait it out for just a little while. We followed Marie s advice and did all the steps that she told us to and she got us approved!! I could hear the excitement in her voice when she called me. Marie literally is a miracle worker. The whole Fairway Mortgage team is! My husband s credit score jumped and boom we were out looking at houses. I tried to use Whidbey Island bank long story short, days before closing the underwriters decided not to approve me. They gave several reasons such as recent short sale and potential payment-shock. I was forced to look for a different lender and Im so thankful to find Marie. Marie and her crew were able to foresee all the potential underwriting concerns and got this same mortgage through without any troubles. I had a client who had found a house they really wanted to buy and so we proceeded to put a offer in on the home, the client was pre-approved with a lender so everything look good and ready to go. Now, lets jump ahead client gets inspection, lender orders appraisal everything is done on everyone Elses end except for the lender... The client, myself and the listing agent put in several calls, text and emails and the lender still kept saying they are working on it. One extension goes by, second extension goes by, the lender asked client for some documents that they had sent her 6 times and had the documentation to prove it. Now mind you this was not a short sale, not a foreclosure just a good old fashion resale (yeah we all appreciate those) Lol so as you can imagine the seller is ready to pull out because they had been waiting patiently for two months trying to work with the buyer. On top of this the lender was related to the client by marriage oh what a scenario this was becoming! Finally I suggested to the seller to call Marie Bjornson of Fairway Mortgage who I work with on the all of my deals unless client has another lender but Marie was really about to wow me! Seriously guys Marie got the docs and in a week and half from start to finish the client was signing closing docs! I cant express enough how on top of it this lady is! She is very professional, is always readily available, keeps you update on the status, her communication is excellent and to add to it one of the nicest persons I have worked with. She is really at the head of the Mortgage game which we all know can be our clients worse enemies. When deciding where to go to get financing for a home we did a lot of research. Because banks only offer a few options we didn t think we d get the best deal through them. And we were right. When searching online for mortgage financing in Whatcom County, one name kept coming up. Marie Bjornson. Every review written about her was 110% accurate. From the first phone call to the closing of our home, Marie was there for us. She did not waste our time. She was upfront and honest about what she could do and she saved us so much money. We thought we would have to pay a lot more on our down payment but we didn t because she found a grant that we were eligible for. She kept money in our pocket. She also found a program that gives us tax breaks every year on our taxes for as long as we own our home, even if we refinance. She went above and beyond what we expected when getting our loan. Marie actually worked for us and cared about what was in our best interest financially. Also, our work schedule is hectic and unpredictable. There are not enough good things I can say about Marie and her team! They are beyond knowledgeable, they keep you well informed they think out of the box to ensure you are getting everything you need, but most importantly they truly care about your success! We enjoyed working with Marie and her team and will return to Marie in heart beat for any Mortgage/refi needs we ever need again! Thank you Marie!

Marie has always been there for me and my family --- we met during the initial purchase of a rental property, and then above and beyond: she was a Landlord Mentor, truly amazing! She would coach us through the miniscule details and advise on larger issues. And always with encouragement and respect. She helped again through the stress of re-financing both our primary residence and the rental property, and then again during the rough times of divorcing and splitting the properties. Kathy our real estate agent recommended Marie. We were told she was the best. Our goal was to get a mortgage for a condo in Birch Bay. Marie was very creative and was able to think outside the box - she made it happen! She was able to put all the puzzle pieces together. We had a very difficult loan to deal with and she was able to get our rental home refinanced, a new car with the payments cut in half and our condo with the ocean view!

If you want a top notch mortgage broker Marie is it! She made my loan application process pleasant, streamlined, and assured that I had all of the necessary information. She assured that financing was ready to go by the closing date and I felt confident through out the entire process. I highly recommend Marie

A difficult purchase was made possible through the incredible efforts and sheer determination of Marie and Michael. I have sold real estate for over 30 years and recognise excellence when I see it.
