I've been around a long time. I've purchased houses, cars, boats and businesses. Running a business and raising a family, I managed large lines of credit. Working with banks has always been time consuming and felt somewhat adversarial. I am at an age now that I don't need credit. So I was surprised when I went to purchase a car and was told I had no credit. With over 1/3 down, I had dealers offering me 22% loans. Fortunately I met Hunter at Whatcom Educational Credit Union. I have never a financial institution offer such support with such ease. All online. All easy. Good counsel. Quick. Informative. Hunter and WECU solved the obstacle with a loan below my expectations. It was a totally new experience getting everything done so easily. My sons have long encouraged me to turn to Credit Unions and away from banks. I wish I had listened to them and turned to WECU long ago. If you live in Washington State, you are qualified to be a member.

You know what the messed up part is loans are from deposits from everyone. Wean a loan is created it's in two forms the deposit liability and the other is the asset. The hole reason behind the debit card and credit card was for the bank to make money by pushing loans that's where banks make there money. Just thank you deposit your money in a bank you thank it's been stored and safe na they using it to loan out you have a digital account. What happens if there is a black out wipes your digital account now your broke with no proof of what you had.

WECU has always been an awesome Credit union for me. I opened a youth savings account ages ago and since then got my first credit card, got a joint account when I got married and even had a car loan through them. I have been lucky to have such great customer service each time, in person and on the phone. WECU really comes through for me.

I ve been here for 20 years but WECU s ability to properly staff their call center is TERRIBLE! No one should have to be on hold for over 30 minutes just to verify funds. Very disappointing!

Been banking with WECU from a young age but the help Ive tried to get from them have not been pleased with me. Like trying to get a new card sent to me and they were gonna confirm it a an official mailing site for me when all I wanted was a new card sent to me nothing else changed when I was living in a different part of Washington for a summer. Also during the pandemic they placed my stimulus check into someone elses bank account (thankfully it was my moms) but it was frustrating enough to deal with that not knowing where it went at the time. Also Ive had many frauds with my card and its already been enough for me. If you want a better bank BECU is the best and I can bank from anywhere in Washington with them because of the amazing locations they have for members! WECU you have lost my interest in not banking her anymore...

Looong time customer. The general state of this company has degraded beyond belief. Up until current leadership took over, this company ran like clock work. It appears they have decided the best way to make a name for themselves is to degrade the customer experience from top notch, to the lowest common denominator, to make a few bucks. The quality of service you will get is a pot luck of mostly untrained badness, the customer has to crutch them through. This is the home branch, I shutter to think whats going on at the other locations...

WECU approved my first car loan for reasonable rates and Ive since paid it off, and made getting a credit card easy. I like I can transfer money from my other bank as well. I appreciate some branches are open Saturdays and are open past 5 pm some days. And the online banking is convenient.

Had WECU from 2014-2021, services were always prompt, and the teller service was always friendly. I started an account after they had a promotion for students (In the BHams), with this random promotional financial incentive to open an account. I felt great going through a local credit union, as opposed to a massive-profit banking system, and their personalized services made the experience meaningful and engaging. They were so helpful the few times I went into overdraft statuses on one of my accounts, and they relied on my earned-and-sustained financial history to speak for itself...instead of gouging me with fees. It was a great bank for me as an undergrad student, and I recommend their services if you are in need of starting out with adulthood banking systems: if you are unsure of how to manage accounts, loans, and joined accounts, as they ensure you feel comfortable asking questions without the fear of a bank gaslighting you as a person. So Im new to Bellingham and Washington state for that matter. I received my first paycheck Saturday and went to WECU about an hour before they closed. I asked to open an account so I could cash my check, and also added I hadnt had any money for 2 weeks starting a new job your a couple weeks before you get paid. The teller stated They are too busy to open an account for you today if youd like to make an appointment next week. Now keep in mind I told her I had no money and living off literally nothing. I thought perhaps they would be decent human beings and try to get me in, but it was a firm they are too busy...Im a medical professional I could just imagine my patients response to Im too busy to take care of you, your pain or anything else you have going on right now. Some of you may be saying Im comparing apples to oranges but last time I checked people need to eat, and for those of you that have savings hooray for you. So as Im leaving I pass the greeter that said I would be able to cash my check when I first came in and told her Well I was going to open an account, but I can see how much you dont care about people so I will go elsewhere. It was kinda funny later on but all she could say dismissively was Okay have a nice day. I will not be doing business here and to add to that everyone that asks me about which bank or credit union to go to to open a new account WECU will certainly NOT be on my list.

We like the employees. Good local and friendly people. However it has become a bank. Rates used to be the lowest. A mortgage broker or Costco will always beat these rates. Sad that a not-for-profit can be beat. It used to be that anyone could walk into the CEOs office to talk with him. Now there is a corporate office at Bellwether. Staff and members do not see head leadership much. Lines in Lobbys can take 30 min, especially Sunset. Call center, what nice people, can take a lot of time waiting. Some good people on the board. The board should discuss these topics and pay attention to the risk of reputation.

When we made our move to Whatcom County we were looking for a local, community-oriented and consumer-focused financial institution. From the opening of our accounts until now, WECU has proven to be the correct choice. (Edit: now that WECU FULLY developed their new online banking, Im very satisfied. It was unsure, due to no communication, if the previous beta system, or whatever, would stay. It did not stay. They upgraded it into a marvelous online experience. I place them back at 5 stars) Two stars- Since their online platform has been upgraded last summer, my online banking experience with WECU is horrible. It still takes 4 days for a transfer payment from my checking to my WECU credit card to post. Most transactions take days to appear in my balance, whereas, with the old system they showed instantly. Im very disappointed.

Prior to the new core computer system now in place, my wife and I were traveling and when a series of charges in a distant city showed up on my wifes credit card, she received a direct phone call from someone at the Holly branch who was watching reports of suspicious activity. It was only a few minutes after the last charge and we were so thankful to have someone question these transactions had they been fraud charges on the account. We reviewed all the charges over the phone and authorized them all. The problem was solved immediately and to our complete satisfaction. Prior to all the fancy programs, WECU was providing a neural net that watched for possible fraud attacks.

Malicious bank. Terrible. Member for 15+ years and they stuck the screws to us the first time we hit a bump in the road. I would never recommend this institution to anyone, not even someone I disliked. Update: wecu thought to reply to my review and email me so they could help understand my rough patch. They sent me to collections over a legally discharged through bankruptcy debt. Also for my credit card that was in good standing. They just stopped accepting payments and sent me to collections. Wecu guys never tried to understand and work with me. When I tried to settle with creditor wecu wouldn t settle for a lump payment. They re actively making a really rough time even rougher.

Used to love this credit union. Now I hate it. They charged me a late fee of 16 dollars, then 6 dollars interest and a 3 dollar finance fee for a 200 dollar credit card. On top of that I used to have privilege pay, now I don t and they still charge me a 16 dollar overdraft fee. They take money from people who don t have any. Also, there s nothing instant about their online transactions. It s truly robbery. Their motto were in this together is disturbingly inaccurate.

Make sure the Bank tellers speak English so people can understand what theyre saying. I came here to see if I could open an account and this ladys accent was thick, I swear she just crossed the border. She proceeded to tell me that my credit was too low for me to open an account. So I went to the one in Lynden and a white lady helped me open an account that same day, with the same credit check.

Worst bank and customer service I ve ever had in my life. DO NOT GET A LOAN FROM THIS BANK!!!! I paid more than the required amount on my loan so they stopped sending my monthly statement. I called and asked for it to be sent to me since I didn t want to pay the fee for making a payment over the phone. My fault for not following up with them after the didn t send it like they said they would so they next thing I received was a late payment notice. Rather than deal with these morons I paid the loan off but they were kind enough to report my late payment to the credit bureau and charge me a late fee. Thanks

I NO LONGER RECOMMEND THIS BANK I used to love this credit union. It was the first one I opened and for almost 10 years I swore by WECU, even as I traveled and moved around the country. Ever since they Updated their mobile banking system, however, the experience with them has become trash. It takes days to post transactions and hours to transfer money to my credit card. They are quick to take it but not return it. They were so helpful on helping me turn off my debit card and take care of a fraud charge I had but than I didn t receive my new debit card for almost 4 weeks. After the second week I called them and they told me to wait a couple more days. When i still didn t receive it and called they stated that my card had been received and was activated. After canceling that one they charged me $30 to FedEx me my card in thee days, when the card didn t show I called just to find out it was never even sent! They finally overnighted my card free of charge and refunded me the $30; but it should not have been that difficult! WECU has made it inconvenient to bank with them and after my wedding I will be closing my account with them.

WECU was a good credit union when I was with them. Unfortunately, they have been incorrectly reporting my closed home loan as failure to pay for the last 9 months and as a result my credit has been ruined. I have reached out to them to resolve the issue and they have been unable to fix it and dont know why it happened in the first place. This is going to cost me a lot of time and money.

Ive been a WECU member for a couple years. I visit a branch maybe an average of once a month. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. I see a lot of 1 star reviews with regards to their mobile banking and system conversion issues (I dont use apps for banking so its a moot point for me). Those concerns are well founded (and hopefully resolved soon?), and I will add that its a point of frustration for me to not have a direct number to call a branch and reach a teller/CSR (or a direct email, not general customer service inbox). Maybe Im old school but I appreciate having a direct contact for a banker. Thats what Im used to, and for reference I worked in retail banking for a long time at a community bank, so I am speaking from experience on the other side of the counter. All this being said, their service for me has been excellent in person, and they have cashed many of my checks that most commercial banks would stand behind Reg CC and hold for a couple days at least. Their safe deposit box rates are reasonable (theres a wait list FYI!). Interest rates on deposit accounts are average, theres better or worse elsewhere depending on where you look. 1 free cashiers check per month is great. Other banks charge $3-$8. NSF fees are very low relative to other banks. I cannot speak to their lending side as Ive never taken a loan from WECU. If WECU can overcome their system issues and create a more direct line of communication for customer service remotely (i.e. phone/email for questions on accounts), I see potential for them to be a 5 star credit union.

I like this bank, but I dont know if its my favorite. Its hard to describe what my favorite bank would be like, because Im frankly not sure lol. But as far as banking institutions to, WECU is not a bad choice.

Payments being sent twice, the Transactions online dont show your whole story transactions, if you late payment they charge you twice in a month. no ATMs around, Change you $13 to make a payment over the phone. charge you $10 to make a payment online if you luck to work it out their online system. hard to get them on the phone, hard to get anyone to update your car insurance on file they keep sending you to one another different call line, next thing you know you end up on a beep. Very stressful, bad bank to get loan from or bank with.

Their recent computer system update screwed everything up for them, and now the amount in my checking is never accurate (neither the ledger nor the balance) when I use my app. There will be days of delay on YOUR money when you let it get direct deposited through WECU. Simply because they get a business day off for holidays, your DD paycheck takes an extra business day to show up in your account later that same week- an issue that seems to only occur at WECU. I never feel like my money all adds up when it goes thru them. Genuinely unhappy on a weekly basis. Random $2, $3, and $5 charges unnamed have been removed from my checking account over time, as well as $2 and $5 increments disappearing when I transfer money from savings to checking. Looking to change credit unions asap.

If I could give a score of -5 stars I would. Since their computer conversion their bill pay and auto deductions are not functioning properly--some go out, others do not. This has been experienced on 3 family member accounts in addition to my own. The excuses I get are inconsistent with the written materials they provided their customers prior to the computer change. The result is unpaid utilities, mortgages, etc. etc. Their account notification system also has bugs which the IT Dept. has been working on for over 2 months. Every time I go to the main branch to discuss this with the manager, they are not there. Three visits, no manager. Ive never missed a payment on any of my accounts before, thanks to WECU I can no longer make that statement. So, after all of this grief? They agreed to reverse $6.00 worth of fees and offer an apology that the change over has had its problems. WECU you made your problems my problems. Not acceptable. Everyone in my family is moving their account.

WECU did an extremely scummy thing that really hurt my family. WECU just did a transfer from my sister in laws account to an unrelated account I am on with my husband. This was with zero communication between WECU and anyone on any of these accounts. My husband and his sister are on one account for emergencies. My husband and I are on other accounts together. It is incredibly unethical and wrong that youd remove funds from the account of a totally separate person to cover MY account, when I have nothing to do with my sisters finances. It clearly wouldve been very easy for me to just steal from her. How does wecu have the right to make the assumption that it wasnt me, and that I related to the other account in any way? We have one account with thousands of dollars and one with far less and a third person completely unrelated to everything. I cannot believe how wrong that is. If I had been called by WECU, I would have moved money over. Instead you stole from someone I have no financial connection to. Insane. We will be closing our accounts with WECU as soon as we return to Bellingham. EDIT: I just received a response to a review I left. I have reason to assume that WECU is either lying, or didnt bother to actually read the review I left. The review response claims that you communicated with parties affected. Id like to point out, again, that I am an affected party, as I am on the account that was overdrawn. I was not contacted in any way. My husband was also not contacted prior to the other account over-drafted by WECU. Furthermore, if the third party affected, Reisa Newmark, had actually been contacted, she would not have called my husband in full panic about money that was stolen from her account. It is completely unfair and unethical that you specifically CAUSED overdrafts from my sister-in-laws account--an account that has nothing to do with ME, and an account that had significantly less money than other accounts my husband and I are on. My husband was contacted about the overdraft and made a promise to pay. He failed to do that. Thats his fault. However, I am also on that account, and I received NO calls, emails, or any correspondence. Neither did Reisa Newmark, the person on the account that money was deducted from. Furthermore, my husband and I, who were both on the over-drafted account, have a third WECU account that had thousands of dollars and NO unrelated people. It makes no sense that you made the decision to deduct from an account with no money, rather than our business account that had thousands. You hurt someone by doing that. Im appalled that the response to my review contained actual blatant lies rather than any effort to make anything right. If you believe that WECU didnt do anything wrong, please let me know the best way to come in and close all 4 of my accounts with WECU.

Were in this together WEcu. The upgrade of services has been at the very least disenchanting. Numerous mistake, payments being sent twice, creating overdrafts, payers not receiving their checks, automatic transfers not going through. The list goes on. Ive heard Im sorry more times than I can count. If were truly in this together fix the problems YOU have created. Stress, frustration, and time lost that I cannot bill for or recoup. You are in it together with the bill pay company. They are your third party. WE didnt ask for this disservice. Tired of promises that have gone on 3 months.

Absolutely terrible customer service, this companys ability to answer a phone is downright pathetic. Transferring away from them is nearly impossible due to this lack of ability. I would not reccomend them to anyone, its simply nessecary to be able to answer the phone for odd situations and occurrences so they can be resolved and I have had the hardest time with WECU with instances like that.

WECU has absolutely zero customer service. They do not answer the phone! I m finally forced to change banks. I received an answer from WECU. To call an 800 number, what a crock and an insult! It s the same number with the same hold time. 30 minutes. Delusional!

*** DO NOT GET LOANS HERE If any issues with insurance on vehicle loans they double your payments! AND require you to not only pay that double payment but also have to pay for your insurance on top of that im paying almost $1300/month when my truck loan payment was only $459.

Ive been a member for over 15 years, but WECU is not providing the kind of service they used to, online or over the phone. What happened since the upgrade? I have been locked out of my account 6 times! Customer service is clearly outsourced now. Funds that used to be transferred online between my own accounts now have to be requested over the phone or in person! Services and convenience have become terrible. There are better options in Whatcom County. Switching credit unions.

opened my first account here when i was 12 years old. been downhill ever since, including asking for a loan being denied after jumping through rings of fire. i turned around and asked heritage bank for help and they did with no rings or fire involved. oh also the new system is the worst tech ive ever experienced

***UPDATE: WECU called me and offered to reverse late charges and change my due date to correct the issue. However, it will always take a few days for my payment to post and they do not backdate it for you.*** What kind of a credit union debits your checking account for a car payment each month, takes five days to post it to your loan and THEN charges YOU a late fee and refuses to reverse the fees??? THIS credit union does that...be warned. This is the ONLY creditor I ve EVER had who doesn t give you same day or next day credit for online payments. I ve never seen such unethical practices from a credit union in my life. Find another financial institution, I know I will.

OMG.. what is happening over there??? This place has gone to hell over the past month. No one answers the phones at customer service which is pretty pathetic. The web page and app wont let me transfer funds between credit cards and bank accounts. I took a survey a year ago encourage these guys not to rebrand themselves. Nothing is work now and theyve caused nothing but a mess. At least get some people to answer the phones at customer service. All I can say is BOOOOO.. the CEO over there should be fired over this.

Ever since WECU updated their system this fall, they have denied access to account holders and caused an unnecessary delay and further issues with gaining access to funds. I would suggest switching to another bank ASAP.

Maybe its that I used to be a bank manager so I know that a simple teller transaction should take between 11 and 15 seconds... Maybe its that common sense tells you that if it takes 20 minutes to do a simple task, you need more people or better trained people... Bottom line the service here is simply terrible. Today helped me to finally decide to leave WECU for good. I complete mortgage applications in less time than it took for me to get a simple payment processed today. RIDICULOUS!!!

Twice Ive gone in here and received terrible service. First time was an attempt to get a car loan (they offered us a rate of over 11%, we declined and received one for 7% through a different bank the same day). The lady was unhelpful and implied we wouldnt be able to get a better deal from anywhere else. The second time was today. I needed some paperwork notarized. The guy read through my entire document, asked invasive questions for ten minutes, then proceeded to tell me he didnt understand what the document was and could not sign. Id explained it several times over to him. Guy was not playing playing with a full deck. Said Id need a lawyer to notarize it for me (not true). All I needed was someone to witness my signature, not a nosey, condescending prick to try and mind my business. This place sucks, bank with anybody else. BTW I was able to get the document signed and faxed down the road at the Mail Room, so theyre not only unhelpful here, theyre also misinformed on two separate occasions.

As an individual I have had a far better long-term experience here at this credit union than I had at any of the other, more typical banks. Their fees are reasonable, their staff are helpful and courteous, and there are many branch locations and ATMs throughout Whatcom County.

Awesome bank and the branch I opened my account at. Can get busy during peak hours but they are pretty good at keeping the line moving. They also have an awesome loan department of which I have got and paid back several, both secured and unsecured loans.

I dont know why anyone would have anything bad to say about wecu! I have had great experiences there as opposed to Key Bank for example. They are extremely helpful and friendly. I have had my account defrauded buy ex-girlfriend twice, and both times the situation was handled within two days with my money returned to me in full! I would never bank anywhere else and I would advise you to give them a try. Also manager Jenny is amazing! thank you Jenny!!

I am appalled at the poor service received and the lack of professionalism. The purpose of our visit was to remove one signer and add two others onto our nonprofit organization s account. We were helped by Amie, who was pleasant, but extremely slow. It took her over an hour of active time assisting us with our simple request. She did not know even basic account servicing questions such as how to add another online login for the account. We were incorrectly told by Amie that there can be only one login ID per account (despite having 3 people on the account). Later we found out that you can indeed have more than one login. The next day, I was furious when I found out that WECU did a hard pull on my credit, as though I had applied for a loan / line of credit. I never authorized them to run my credit, and I was not applying for anything that would require a credit check. I was NEVER given any disclosures by Amie or anyone else. I immediately contacted the bank and they will be issuing a letter to Experian requesting that the credit check be removed from my account, as I did not authorize it. Upon further investigation, the branch manager confirmed that it was an oversight on Amie s part that she forgot to provide the proper disclosures. Beware of this place. I recommend staying far far away. From everything I have seen, they are unprofessional, not very knowledgeable and inefficient.

This Credit Union is absolutely horrible. I bought my first car about a year and a half ago and since then have had nothing but issues with this place. They do not have a good way to pay bills. They do not have a direct withdraw option, I mean it is 2017. When I called to try and figure out how to PAY money to them all the options require more money. You can call with a fee, an external transfer with a fee, or drive up there which cost money as well. I live an hour and a half away from Bellingham and I work so it is hard for me to make it up there every month to make my payment. (the cheapest option for me. Every month I get a letter in the mail stating my insurance has been canceled which it has not, I contact my insurance and they have told me on multiple accounts that it is WECUs responsibility to check with the company and they have not. So every month I spend a week trying to figure their issues out. And these are just two issues I face with this credit union.

Got an account, waited a good 10 days, no card. Go in and they sent it to the wrong address. Order another card. Wait a good 10, maybe 12 days, get a call saying the card manufacturer never sent out the cards made on a certain day. I call WECU directl to ask more specifically when my card is coming, they tell me in 5-7 business days, tell me about the instant card, i decline it. Wait 10 days, call again, they say they were under the impression i was getting the instant so they never ordered my new card. Been waiting for over a month now, will be switching banks. Terrible communication skills.

I am only leaving a two because the people INSIDE most branches are helpful, especially at Bellis Fair, but if youre talking to representatives over the phone for just general questions (not loan inquiries, Ive actually had very good experience with them) they are the absolute worst customer service Ive ever had. One in particular (I will keep her unnamed) is the absolute worst and cuts you off before you ask your question/state your issue and just asks for your account number. Every. Single. Time. Not a single person that I have ever talked to over the phone for general inquiries of my account has ever given me confident answers to my questions, assurance of help, empathy, or acknowledged my frustration. They almost all just cut me off, ask for my account number, answer the question I have prior to looking into my account and then when they do look into my account, end up having to back track the information they provided me because it ends up being incorrect. Half of the time they tell me something might be pending when I will have to tell them that it is. They clearly dont know what they are doing and dont care about the customers who call in. I am super tempted to start banking with a different credit union after this. I have worked in customer service since I was 18 and I worked customer service in a call center for almost 3 or 4 years; if I spoke to a customer the way I get spoken to every time I call in, I would be in serious trouble, and clearly WECU doesnt plan on rectifying this issue anytime soon since its been an ongoing problem.

Our family has banked with WECU for years and have never had a poor experience. Services include: car loans (2), safe deposit box, Visa credit cards (1% back annually), household checking and savings accounts for everyone (including the kids) in the family. Customer service is always fast and friendly. The app is easy to use, even for mobile deposits for my daughter who lives out of state. Plus, the employees are active in the community volunteering for multiple non-profits. An all around great organization that I recommend.

Due to the bill pay upgrade last week, my electronic transfer changed to a paper check that took a week to arrive and still hasnt cleared my account. Definitely a step backwards WECU.

Cant say enough about WECU....From the time they approved me for my truck loan a couple years ago when my credit was not the greatest, to the end of last year when my transmision went out in Utah where we had moved. I called on the phone and aked if I could extend my loan $3000, the cost of the rebuild. The lady I talked with was very sympathetic to my problem and treated me like we had known each other forever.I gave all the AAmco info she needed. It was late in the day so I had to wait until the next day for an answer. Before I could call for the answer the AAmco manager called me to tell me they had called him with the approval. Amazing service by awsome credit union. This week or next I am going to call about a motorcycle loan. Hope that goes as well, but if it doesnt I will understand that maybe Im not ready for two loans.
