Communication, attentiveness, it was all great. But then it wasn’t when I read my breakdown for cost—close to $13k in fees compared to the competition. Not joking. I asked the staff to be straight with me and trim their fees. They didn’t. The staff knew I was comparing offers, and they also knew I was leaning more towards their competition. They didn’t notify me they requested an appraisal, just emailed me the bill instead. So, since I was on a tight deadline, I paid for the appraisal to be sent over to the other company I was working with since the appraisal was completed. After all said and done, a professional birdy whispers in my ear telling me FC shouldn’t have ordered the appraisal without telling me….. sigh. FC & state bank double-dipped me just to keep the green dollar bill flowing, so all for money and you get a Zero star if I could. Now I have a sour, rotten taste in my mouth and it feels this taste will last forever. Stay clear of these bozos.

We financed through them when we bought our home and then again when we refinanced recently. They were able to save us $400 a month through the refinance! They are very friendly and work hard. They will go the extra step to get you the best options. I trust them. Even when we were thinking about refinancing a couple years ago, they were completely honest when they told us then wasnt the time to refinance based upon the numbers. I also appreciate that they are willing to reach out to you when a good time to refinance comes around. Great company! We worked with Austin. Hes great! Their other staff have also been friendly and helpful!

Took forever we had all our needed items turned in they set a closing date then changed it, then changed it again, then once again, finally nailed them down and got it done. But only after my wife lost 2 days of work due to them putting off our closing date.

First off, our Financial Advisor Shaun Russon with First Colony is amazing, thoughtful, considerate, has a great character, but most of all financially intelligent. He stays up with the latest economic trends and changes in order to give the best timing for refinancing or home purchases. I dont just suggest, I urge you to speak with him when considering home options. He is the beginning of the process necessary in making a house a home. He cares on a personal level and treats others with the same dignity, respect, and sincerity that he would want for himself and his family. His company is willing to match or beat pricing options of other big companies and whats best is he is live and in person. He gave me and my family constant updates throughout my home purchase 8 months ago and did so again when were informed to refinance as the market dropped to a much better interest rate. This guy is classy and genuine. I cannot recommend him any higher. My husband has done finances for a living and neither him or I EVER saw or felt him try to pull anything secretively or deceptively just to make a buck. Go check out your options. Whats the harm in saving money for the holidays or at any time? Not only that but he took his time to get to know our family. When we closed on our home and even when we refinanced, he gave us a little goodie bag that included stuff for my husband and I, our kids and even something for our cats.

Ben McAffee just helped me for the second time recently, so I came to write a review on both experiences. The first was to purchase a home several years ago, and the second was a refinance most recently after a change of personal circumstances in life. I have had experiences with other lenders before, but I felt like Ben and his team have always gone above and beyond. The first thing I appreciate is that at no time was I ever burdened with unnecessary requests for additional information that I felt wasnt relevant or needed for the loan. Yes, I was asked for more information or documents, which is very normal during the application of home loans, but it was all relevant and easy to obtain. They also move things along VERY quickly, as long as you are being responsible by doing your part to provide them the information they need to move things along. The second thing I appreciate is the communication during this important time was perfect. Their team always let me know exactly what was going on, responded to my questions and concerns in a timely manner, and made sure I knew what was happening. Third, they have great rates on their loans compared to other financial institutions, and they have always helped me choose the right type of loan for my situation. There are all kinds of different options for home loans, and Ben is knowledgeable about each and every one of them, and helped me choose the best option for me each time. I also appreciate that he does not push you into products you dont need. For instance, he will not push you into a refinance if he does the math and determines its not the smartest option, even if it means he doesnt do business with you. They truly looked out for my best interest, gave me the best options, and made the entire process as stress-free as possible. I was not paid or asked to write this review, I am simply a happy second-time customer and felt compelled to write an honest review of my experiences with Ben and his team at First Colony Mortgage, and I look forward to doing business again with them in the future for my home loan needs.

I am a Marine Corps veteran who spent 17 months in Vietnam in 1968-69. When my wife and I decided to buy a new home utilizing a VA Home Loan Guarantee we spent some time talking about the VA prequalification process and then Jeremy sent us out to find a home. We found a place that had neighbors with flags and flagpoles and told Mr.Hollingshead to get the paperwork done. Within three weeks I was signing my John Hancock on 65 pages and slicker n spit I was a homeowner. Try as I might I couldnt find anything to complain about with 1st Colony, Jeremy Hollingshead, or that other guy in the office who hadnt previously known why it aint good to drink water...

Ben McAffee was stellar! He is so organized and honest and is really sharp and on top of things. The process was smooth, quick and very easy. I would recommend Ben & First Colony Mortgage to anyone. Ben McAffee was an awesome guy to work with. He made every experience a pleasant one and was nice to talk to someone that could dumb things down to where anyone could understand them. There were several times I had to sign 30+ papers but that was literally the hardest part of the whole house buying process. I Keep his card on me just incase I find someone that is looking for a house.
