We bought our home in September and I've waited to write this review because I needed time to cool off from the terrible experience we had.

We decided to go with Academy Mortgage because they were recommended to us by a family member and the real estate agent representing the home we were purchasing said Academy Mortgage was offering all clients a $5,000 gift card to Home Depot.

We worked with Aaron Fritz and his team. Our builder was offering a buy down that we asked Academy Mortgage to include in our mortgage. We asked for this at least one month before closing and Aaron confirmed weeks before closing that his team would do this. Two days before closing, we were sent the paperwork to sign and the buy-down was incorrect. Additionally, before this we were sent paperwork to sign with incorrect employment information, different than we had given them which also had to be corrected. It honestly felt like the team was not listening to us at all. Or not communicating with each other internally.

Because the deal was written up incorrectly days before closing and needed correction, Academy Mortgage came back to us and said that we could not close in two days and would have to wait until the following week because of their mistake. We asked Academy Mortgage to make it right. To their credit, they were able to fix the mistake and we were able to close on time, however while they were fixing the mistake we continued to receive different messages from various people on their team simultaneously; one minute it was a go, the next a no-go. This emotional rollercoaster could have been avoided with some simple internal emails/messages it seemed like. It was baffling to us that they were also not communicating with each other.

We went to closing still unsure what our monthly payment would be because we had received so many revisions at that point. We felt so in the dark and frustrated by the terrible communication we had received. Our real estate agent was not informed of the updated date and time of closing, so she didn't show up.

To top it off, after closing we asked Academy Mortgage to send the Home Depot gift card. They claimed the $5,000 gift card had not been an offer so we had to get the builder's real estate agent involved and sent them a screenshot of texts from Aaron Fritz himself confirming the deal. At this point Aaron came back and said that a $4,500 credit had been applied to the closing costs, contrary our request. After messaging Aaron's secretary for a month or so we received a $500 gift card to Lowe's.

It seems to me that every issue we encountered could have been easily solved by correct use of a CRM software too. It seemed like each time we spoke to a new person they had no idea what previous communication had taken place.

The lack of integrity from Academy Mortgage was so disappointing. In a time where interest rates are so high and fewer people are buying homes, we were absolutely shocked by their behavior and lack of professionalism.

Aaron gave us advice early on about what options were available so we could make an offer on a home. Then he helped us every step of the way to the loan completion. Also, he was able to find us an amazing loan program at an impressive rate with a down payment that could meet our budget.

Poor communication skills. Asked for a certain percentage and we weren t told we had didn t qualify for the lower down payment. When we showed up to sign papers they just submitted the higher payment without ever asking is. When we tried to get it sorted out no one would answer the phone and the loan writers were all out of town. We told the title company we were disappointed they couldn t get us in sooner because they didn t have any appointments and the title company said they could have easily gotten us in. When I asked Acadmey about this the worker then cried (I kid you not) and she said I lied. The reason she lied was because she had a lot of work to do and didn t think she could get it done sooner. No problem if they are busy. But they lied and blamed the other company for this. The entire process was horrible. They kept leaving out information for the loan had to keep writing. Multiple times. It was a horrible experience. We since bought again and it was smooth as can be. This entire company was impossible to work with.

Academy Mortgage as a loan servicer is by far the worst loan servicer i have ever had. Most of the time when you get a loan through someone you would prefer they keep the loan and not sell it, but this is not the case here. Trying to get any good help from Academy is a joke at best. They make setting up bi-weekly payments 10 times more complicated than any other servicer i have had. I have been trying to get bi-weekly drafts set up for 3 months and there customer service lacks any type of customer service. Maybe they make it so complicated so they dont lose money from bi-weekly payments decreasing the loan period? I would not recommend Academy Mortgage as a loan servicer to anyone! Update: After the review, someone from academy called to get the situation fixed. It took about 30 minutes but I was assured the issue was resolved. I would highly recommend academy makes bi-weekly payment set up an option on the loan portal to make life easier for all.

These guys are the absolute best mortgage loan people and company I ve ever worked with in over 30 years of buying and refinancing our homes. This team is amazing. They made a difficult home-buying experience so smooth. Our loan officers went out of their way, doing things outside of their job description, to make sure our needs and wants were met and the transaction processed as smooth as possible. This was a seamless and painless process due to Academy Mortgage understanding the whats and whens, as well as the Rhett and his team providing such excellent service!

All around, Academy mortgage was just a pain to deal with. It seems like the loan officer just loved to talk talk talk, but never addressed the actual concerns I brought up when I called. He would talk for 30 minutes without me getting a word in edgewise if I didnt interrupt and talk over him to try and get something across. In every step of the process, we found errors in the documents that they prepared. In the very first sit-down, we found they had put us down for a 400k mortgage instead of a 240k mortgage, and they had put us down for a 20% down payment instead of 10%. We should have taken that as a warning sign and run away, but they seemed so friendly we went ahead. This trend continued throughout the process. Every time we received a document we found boxes unchecked, numbers written incorrectly, and they always promised to fix it in the next set of papers. Some things were still written wrong even in the semi-final draft of the agreement we received 3 days before signing. It took almost 40 days to close our loan, when we had originally been told 3 weeks. They would tell us well get back to you on that tomorrow, or next week, and yet they would not call us or email us again unless we called and left several messages first, and then it was still a day or two later. By the time we were finally able to close, we had to pay almost an extra $800 to keep the original rate we had locked in, because it had expired and had to be renewed. Academy Mortgage did not consult us or inform us of this possibility beforehand, it just suddenly showed up as an extra charge on our papers, which in my opinion is unacceptable. We were tempted at that point to throw the deal out the window, find another lender, and cut our losses, but we persisted. All these things added together made this a very unpleasant experience. Yes, they sent us a gift basket with some random candy in it a few months later, but that is not nearly enough to make up for the frustration we went through. I asked if they could give us a discount anywhere else to make up for having to pay a fee to keep our rate locked, and they just said no. All in all, they seemed unprofessional with their numerous typos and incorrect figures, broken promises and chatterbox mannerisms. Nice enough people, but not who you want to work with on many pages of financial documents.

Our experience with Academy Mortgage was terrible. Aaron was always out of town and his team was unable to really answer our questions. The refi process time took over two months to complete even through we provided all of the necessary information when requested. During that time, we felt like we were in the dark because no one communicated to us what was going on or why it was taking so long. Sometimes it would be days before we got a response back which is very unprofessional. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience. I am glad it is over with.

This is the second time I have gone through Academy Mortgage to finance my home. The staff is friendly and make the process easy!

We had a great experience with Academy Mortgage - they were extremely knowledgeable and helped us as first time homebuyers navigate some of those nuances. The only negative thing I can think of is in the very beginning the response time was a little slow, and they do have a lot of fees (but what mortgage lender doesnt). In the end they made us feel comfortable in the process and thats a huge help in such a big purchase.

My experience with Academy Mortgage was nothing but positive. As a first time home buyer I had lots of questions and Kim Townsend walked me through the process and always kept in touch with me at least weekly to let me know the progress of my loan and answer any questions I had. When there was an issue with the HOA he followed up and even offered money out of his own pocket to pay for the coverage they needed so I could be approved. They were fabulous in every way and I would recommend them highly.

Everyone Ive talked to has good things to say about academy mortgage. For us it went way more smoothly than with our last mortgage with a different company. We felt well informed about deadlines, progress, and the process was made very simple.

Jan Hassell is excellent to work with. She always makes you feel important and no question is too small to ask. Brandi Kap was also great to work with and to notify us of any documentation needed to complete the loan process.

Maureen Richey and Nelson Barss were great to work with. They made the loan process easy with videos and articles on what was needed and why. There were also very responsive when I had questions. I would highly recommend this team at Academy Mortgage.

I worked with Nelson Barss at Academy Mortgage on a refinance. He was wonderful. He first walked me through my credit history and explained my options. He was professional and smart -- which gave me confidence in the process. He communicated with me after each step in the process and explained what would happen next. It was such a positive experience for me.

We just completed building a new home and having Academy provide the mortgage services. Kim and his team at Academy were fantastic throughout the whole process. We met with Kim prior to starting the build and reviewed our options and the process. Kim helped us with options, watching rates and recommendations that would work best for us. The service we received was exactly what we needed. The closing went smoothly and we couldnt be happier with the mortgage we received. I strongly recommend Kim and Academy Mortgage - Layton.

I had heard a lot of great things about Academy Mortgage so I chose them do my home loan. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with them. Everything seemed to take way longer than they had told us it would. We ended up having to push our closing date back 2 weeks and then they still almost didnt meet that deadline. It just seemed like they didnt really care when they got their part done for us. We turned everything in as soon as they would ask for it and it would just sit there for weeks. Our main issue was with our loan processor because she was out of town a lot during the process so things just kept getting pushed to the next week. I understand that some things are uncontrollable and that you are bound to have a few problems here and there. I just didnt feel like they handled those problems in a professional manner. I didnt notice much effort on their end. This being said, I do think they are a great company and that others could have a lot better experience then we did. It was probably just a fluke thing for us.

Academy Mortgage was really good to work with. I was impressed with their ability to move really quickly and get things done on time. They were very personable and friendly, not once did they make me feel stupid for asking questions. There were a couple of miscommunications that very well could be my fault because I dont know the process well. The only thing that couldve improved would be making sure we were on the same page throughout the process. Thanks Academy Mortgage

We had a great experience working with Academy Mortgage. Aaron, Logan, & Brandi were all great to work with. Academy offered competitive rates with options to lock early. Getting the best rate possible was important to us. Academy delivered everything they said they would and were helpful in getting us information on loan options. Brandi gathered all the necessary paperwork and kept us updated and informed. Academy worked around our schedule when it came time to close and there were no surprises or disappointments. We would definitely use Academy again.

Overall I felt like the experience working with Academy mortgage was good. Their communication was excellent. I felt like I knew what was going on through out the process. At times it was discouraging because of the documentation required for unexpected money that we received and put in our bank account. The good experience out weighs the tense moments!

Academy mortgage is an absolutely amazing mortgage company. We have purchased multiple homes and recently did a refinance with Academy Mortgage and they are always fabulous from beginning to end. With every process, their efficiency is remarkable. They are so helpful in walking us along the entire process and always make sure that nothing is a surprise. I am also impressed with how cutting edge their online systems/notifications/graphics are. They certainly meet and exceed their competition on every level. We have recently used Academy for a loan on a house we purchased. Their performance from beginning to end was excellent! We had some complications with closing dates on our real estate contract and Academys staff rose to the challenge to have us ready. Aaron was also outstanding in working with us to accommodate funding from three other properties we were selling. Highly recommended!

We closed on our new construction home after working with Academy for 7 months to get the right loan product for our needs. They were patient and never told us we might be over our heads and offered assistance and answered questions when needed. We did have a little trouble with the underwriter not having the right docs when we were near our closing date. But, all in all, Academy is very thorough and knowledgeable.

I started a refinance several times and gave up along the way to completion and then I found Academy Mortgage and Logan Jensen. I could not have asked for a better experience. We recently did a refinance with Academy Mortgage. It was the most pleasant experience we have had and by far the easiest one. We had to call Logan quite often with questions that he was able to answer and help us with. He was available for our needs and the process went quickly and without one bump. We appreciate all that Logan Jenson and the other people that helped to expedite the process and make it a pleasant experience.
