Hip chain that buys, sells, trades trendy vintage & used clothing plus accessories for men & women.
Decent buying experience; overpriced for a low- to mid-range consignment shop (lots of fast fashion brands for close to retail prices) but stock is generally in good condition. I don’t recommend selling here at all, though. Unless the items you’re donating follow whatever microtrends are popular on TikTok at the moment, be prepared to face overt judgment and condescension from the employees. I have never been so disrespected by a service worker before in my life — although the clothes I brought in were in good condition and fairly current, the person processing my sale made rude comments about every item, berated my style / body, and even pinched her nose for dramatic effect (the clothes literally had been washed that same day). Instead of enduring such a degrading experience just so Buffalo Exchange can resell your used clothing at a huge premium, I recommend donating to a nonprofit entity. It’s better for the soul and doesn’t benefit a company that employs terrible people.

Be careful this place is super addictive! I absolutely love this store. I can go in here any day of the week and find something high and or designer for a bargain price. It takes time, shopping is not quick, the best time to arrive as early in the morning before the clothes have been rummaged through. If you're looking to sell your clothes here you need to be very aware of Trends.
I recommend calling ahead of time and asking them what they are accepting. Ask for details if you aren't sure what the trends are asked them, they will tell you.
The traffic here can get pretty busy in the afternoons and evenings when people get off work so the earlier in the day you can arrive the smoother your shopping trip will be.

First time thrifting here and they did have a bunch of clothes but they were all overpriced, some of the clothing were full of lint balls and priced $20. The only nice thing was that there was some nice designer things i saw in the display case, check out was a bit of a wait

This is my second time coming to this location to sell clothes. I had to wait 45 minutes in line (with a baby in the car crying ready to go home) just for them to turn down ALL of my items. I brought a trash bag full of clothes and everything was new with tags. Brands were PrettyLittleThing, Windsor, FashionNova, ASOS, etc. Will not be returning back here to sell or buy for that matter. Rather spend the time selling on Mercari, PoshMark, or Facebook Marketplace.

I sold clothes here today and had a great experience. I was helped by Journey, who was so sweet and made great conversation while going through my clothes. She priced items as she went, and although I didn’t sell all of my items, I made $91! I took the exact same clothing to the 2nd street thrift last week and was offered $21 for the exact same clothes. I’m shocked by the price offering difference, and highly recommend selling at buffalo!!!

buffalo exchange is a weird one. it's certainly possible to find something you love, but it's, well, really hard. i guess that's to be expected.
i think they should stop accepting shein/cider/other penny fast fashion brands. or, at the very least, they should price them reasonably -- for example, a used cider top should be no more than $3, considering cider dropships from aliexpress. you would be hard pressed to find anything that cheap -- even shein -- in buffalo exchange.

If you re a true thrifter, you won t like this store. Everything is mainstream and basic; stuff from forever 21 or fashinova. Nothing is vintage. If you like basic, what everyone is wearing now but for a dollar or 2 less than you d pay if it were new, this is the thrift store for you lol Things here are generally OVERPRICED.

Piggy backing off all the recent comments. I m in here everyday, and I have definitely have heard employees talking about taking good pieces for themselves. The nicest people in that store is the security guard, and the asian girl at the checkout counter. The rest gossip and talk about the buyers who just sold quite unprofessional.

Terrible. I overheard the employee asking the customer how much she paid for a sweater she was trying to sell. And then used that information to determine how much she would give her for it. Shows how unknowledgable the staff is and that they just make up prices as they go. No rhyme or reason

Extremely inconsistent and biased buying behaviors. I have noticed over the course of several months of observation and documentation. Can provide evidence of dozens of instances of them refusing to buy a garment from a particular person because of lack of demand or the condition of the item, and then subsequently accepting the exact same garment from a different seller. Sometimes minutes apart on the same day. This shows they pick and choose who they want to buy from, and it s not entirely based on the item or its condition. Overall the customer service is usually present but not very helpful. There also seems to be a very clear sizing bias. Employees stash favorable items before they ever make it to the sales floor. I have witnessed this more than a few times. You will certainly receive better prices, and service if your friends with one of the employees, I have also witnessed this play out. When it comes to shopping at buffalo exchange I ve found that there is rarely ever anything in my size that isn t worn beyond belief which begs the question what is the standard ? Some of the stuff they have on the shelf/rack RIGHT NOW is dirty and extremely worn, some of it even has odors. So I usually leave empty handed. I just discovered 2nd street which is one block up on 16th and Chesnut street and had a much better experience. The store is a lot cleaner and so are the clothes. Staff was helpful and they had a MUCH better selection (probably a reflection of buffalo s buying tendencies) and the way everything is laid out makes sense unlike buffalo exchange. (They stop buying at 530p) I d be happy to show anyone who s curious months worth of examples and evidence that will support everything I m alleging. Moral of the story : there are better options for buying and selling where you don t have to deal with discrimination.

THE EMPLOYEES TAKE ALL OF THE GOOD ITEMS BEFORE THEY REACH THE FLOOR! I had a popular review for this place that mysteriously has disappeared from my account (but I still have email record of it). The employees take all of the cool/designer items and put them on hold behind the counter. The employees go out of their way to hide this from the customers, but all the cool items live behind a curtain behind the counter.
Published at 9 months ago
Please know the employees are taking all of the good stuff before it reaches the floor. I ve seen it with my own eyes. This effort is led by the STORE MANAGER according to an employee at the register, so I m assuming it will not change. If you look behind the curtain behind the counter you will find all the designer and cool items on hold . Tried look at Stone Island, Balenciaga, Raf Simmons, stuff I saw behind the register, but I was told it was all on hold by THE STORE MANAGER (then a few of the employees scrambled back there and started hiding it.) The stuff on the sales floor is picked-over garbage.

Have been to this Buffalo Exchange several times since they ve changed locations and have not been able to stumble across anything worth buying every single time. Everything is so overpriced and the selection of clothing seems to only consists of fast fashion items and barely anything vintage or even manufactured before the 2000s Sucks because this used to be one of my favorite thrift stores in Philly. I always left with at least something! But that has not been the case as of lately unfortunately. Not sure what happened to this place You can probably find better things and prices at a Goodwill or Salvation Army honestly. Unless you want second hand H&M and Forever 21 items that s like $2-$5 off the original price then there s just no point of shopping here in my opinion.

Had a solid selling experience here. Since it was my first time they explained the process and it really makes sense - expect a lot of stuff to get rejected because they need to be able to sell it and they have standards as to fabric (if it s paper thin men s wear then they are gonna consider that, for instance). I really feel like a lot of people who rated poorly don t get what this is - it s not a recycling program, they need to be able to flip it reasonably quickly. I did this because I know 90% of the price on this stuff goes to the labor associated with flipping it. Them doing that comes at a premium, hence the aggressive cut. I was impressed how efficient the process was, they had clothing clipped with a price and totaled pretty instantly once it was my turn. They also go figure lean a little hipster and reserved so it s possible some of the people folks think are rude lean introverted.

This place is a mess . The young girls here have no fashion sense and wear hand me downs themselves so how would they know good quality, fashionable clothes? When you go to sell your clothes of course they look through them . I had plenty of good quality pieces that they didnt take saying they wouldnt sell or they werent taking winter clothes but the majority of the clothes they took were heavy sweatpants and heavy hoodies . When you look around the store the clothes are filthy and dirty with spills and holes in them but they have the nerve to be particular about pieces that were clearly in wayyyyy better condition than the trash they had . I also think theyre getting over because the percentage they get cash for the clothes is wayyyyy lower than the percentage they give for store credit. Why would anyone want to buy rags if theyre selling them ? I dont think that makes much sense . Also watch them because theyll put your clothes on the side so they can keep things for themselves personally and not pay you for them . This place should be shut down . Its dirty in here and theyre literally stealing money from people and getting over .

Here they basically steal your money, they took all my brand name clothes... 5 pieces told me they made $40 but they would give me $10 in cash or if I wanted $20 in credit, obviously I come here to sell not to buy, all my clothes were good and He only told me that I couldnt take any more because they were very formal clothes, $10 dollars only when I paid for parking and spent my gas to come here, not counting the 30 minutes I lost waiting in line. I would like to give them 0 stars

I ve had positive experiences with the staff every time I ve visited. I ve bought nice long-lasting clothes from brands like Agolde and Everlane secondhand that I otherwise would not be able to afford at full retail prices. They have an assortment of clothes, some of which are new from boutique brands, and you may have to dig for the high quality stuff in your style and size but it s worth it. I also have sold my clothes here several times for cash and credit. They take a good chunk of my items and I can tell they re discerning without being picky. Overall, love this place!

I ve been going to this Buffalo exchange since they were at their first location across the street from Sephora. It has been my favorite thrift store for almost a decade & unfortunately that s no longer the case since the business seems to be going downhill. I ve sold clothing on a few occasions & each time, there s a different buyer. So the criteria for what they accept is essentially arbitrary & completely subjective to the employee s taste. As time went on, they seem to be more selective with the items they take however, the inventory available to the public hasn t improved whatsoever. The prices for clothes is still pretty good but they ve completely ruined their closet-clean-out mantra.

Overall pleased with the process. Was there (multiple times) with a friend to sell clothes - we brought LOTS of items. Criteria of what they buy is somewhat confusing and inconsistent from one time to the next, as well as with different buyers. They bought way less than we expected (especially the first time), so we had to haul a lot out of there.

Will try to be as fair as I can here. It was my first time going to the store and I ve seen the mostly negative reviews on selling, but decided to still give it a shot. I brought 2 huge bags of clothes 1 bag is full of lightly worn, good quality and brand name items (I only mention they re branded because this seems to matter when selling worn clothes), the other bag is also filled with name brands but maybe a little bit more used but still in good wearable quality. I went in and waited on the selling side. The store seems bright and organized. Everyone seems nice and polite in the counters. I didn t wait too long and I was called to bring my stuff. The person who was going through my clothes was nice and friendly at first, she talked like she liked my things, she said they don t take winter stuff which on their voicemail said they take all weather stuff. She started going through my things, picked something put a tag on it and moved on. While she was doing so, another person, presumably a manager, came over, shook her head and said no. So she took the tag off and kept going. From then on, conversation seized, she went through my stuff almost like a routine, and basically put everything back. The one they almost picked was one of the least valuable items I ve brought in and one of the more trendy, fast fashion items. So lesson learned they have a very specific taste and style here. And that s it and all they care about. It s one type of dressing. It s more on the trendy, hip, high-top, funky, vintagey look that a lot of fast fashion brands are currently doing. I walked around the store after they rejected all my clothes Lol And seem to have good stuff but again, it s a very specific type of clothing and fashion genre. It s annoying because their site and voicemail and ads make it sound like they are very opent to all and anyy type of clothing but they certainly are not! It would be so much better if they re just transparent about what they re looking for so people like me don t think we have a place there when we won t. So unfortunately, this turned me off on their store :(

I went into the store with a friend and looked around hoping to find something for a plus size individual such as myself. Seeing the racks of clothing with some dividers for S, M, L, XL inconsistently (there were racks with no dividers, and some with only S & M) I asked a lady that worked there (who was directing another associate so I assume she was higher than a regular CSA) if they had a plus size section. She told me to look in the part that was sectioned on with the XL. Even trying to find anything higher than XL was a challenge as all sorts of sizes were strewn about the divided part on every rack. I can understand customers not putting a piece of clothing back in its proper section, but you d think if they face their store they d check for proper organization for sizes. I feel they re not being inclusive by having a rack for Plus size in particular, making you have to scrounge for a single XXL-XXXL piece if they even have one in the sea of S, M, & L s. When my friend checked out their product I noticed their jewelry case with rings and thought perusing it might lift my bad experience; I saw each ring have a barcode attached and on a few that were turned, various sizes. So I asked the lady behind there if she could point out the section where there would be my size, only for her to inform me that they weren t organized but she could size them for me if I found one I liked. That felt even more ridiculous, why would I pick a ring I like only to be let down if it s several sizes incorrect for me? It feels sloppy and lazy to not have a simple sectioning of the literally tagged pieces that are in a jewelry case, you d only need to organize once and you d simply be able to tell the customer oh this section right here is the size! It truly does not seem hard to accommodate customers with the bare minimum of product organization. If they can barely organize their shoe racks by size, they could organize those clothing racks and jewelry case more efficiently.

Saturday I had a not so nice experience here and dont think I will be going back. I normally Love this one I stopped going to the one in NYC and was taking the drive down to Philly because everyone was nice and also I had gotten down to a T on what to sell here. Well things have changed in the last 3 months sense I had last been. I Normally make an appointment for the mornings but this time I decided to do an afternoon appointment. BIG MISTAKE! the girl who was my Buyer was tired after a long day and I do understand BUT when you want to work in this type of environment you have to adjust. I was her last buy and she rushed through it all stuff that I know they take she didnt take. She even passed on an Elton John shirt that I know was worth money. The worst thing she couldve said to me was that if I dont know them shes cant take it and she was only taking vintage t shirts that are single stitch. Ling story short she will have that place in a whole if she doesnt become better with her buys. And to tell a person that shell be fast because its time for her to go home... No maam not with me. She didnt even want to talk to me she was more interested into talking with her Co worker... Naw Im gonna pass Ill find another one my time is worth it no matter what! Yes Im selling but Im also human... Sorry not Sorry Sellers beware

I especially love when the Halloween costumes are out early, and organized by size! And when the clearance racks are out simultaneously (in the past, the clearance rack was replaced by the costume rack). Overall, I usually find something amazing each time I visit.

They took me 10 min late for my appt (but yet they harp about showing up early or on time). Also, their website says bring your cold weather clothes after lugging everything downtown on the subway I find that they are now looking for more spring items. Would be nice if they update their website with what they re actually seeking so I don t waste my time. Not going back.

Ive been shopping here for Years, and they never disappoint in terms of quality, selection, and service. Just grabbed a sweet leather jacket for like $20!!

Im never going back there again every time i go i give them brand new stuff with tags on it and they give it back because they dont like it i would think any consignment store would take any new clothes for the business they give me back my items every time is it because i dont wear the clothes they wear looking like they from the 70s like who still wear flare jeans its crazy any clothes in good condition should be exception the store look like a rag store like if you got anything to sell or stuff you want to get rid of dont take it there the wont give you the value of your merchandise or take your clothes unless they dirty or old looking. Well this is my advice and my opinion just dont go to buffalo exchange a waste of time dueces .

I love this store, the staff is always friendly and the stock rotates frequently so theres always something new to find. Great mens selection also, larger than youd usually find in clothing-centric thrift stores. Plus sizes, lots of dresses, great variety of styles. Clientele is polite also, very enjoyable experience thumbing through the racks to find that perfect gem amongst others who are doing the same.

I love this little place. My son brought me here & Im so glad he did. It is a second hand store in center city. If you want to donate anything you have & they think they can sell it they will actually pay you for your donation in your choice of store credit or cash! Thats Awesome! They have a lot of name brand stuff, mostly clothing, shoes & accessories. So if u want to empty ur closet & start a new wardrobe this is a great way to do it. The store is a bit on the smaller side but they have a lot of stuff. The staff was friendly & helpful. They will even hold items for up to 24hrs if u are undecided on an item. I really like this place.

Hadnt been in years. Decided to go. Overpriced Goodwill merchandise. Saw a Rebecca Minkoff bag for $60. Talk about used and worn. Im not talkn gently used either. It was to the point youd give it to ur daughter so she can play dress up. I wont be returning.

***Selling experience only*** In short, I gave them 8 pieces (1 coat, 2 shirts, 1 sweatshirt, 1 sweater, 2 pants, 1 t-shirt), and I got 41 bucks in cash. My items were mostly well known brands (COS, Theory, Paul Smith and etc.). I know thats not a lot of money, but you can get cash right away, so I think thats saving my time and less stressful. My visit was about 20 min, it was quick and easy process. If you like to shop here, you can get paid double in shop card (my case would be 82 bucks).

A great place to shop, pleasant employees

In my experience, the downfall of this location is the employees. One man who works there is a friendly face but the rest of them have awful customer service and seem lazy. I waited to check out as one person in front of me was finishing. Once it was my turn, the two employees at the register just walked away while a handful of other employees just stood with their arms crossed chatting with each other. Once someone was able to help me check out, she was preoccupied with her conversation with coworkers and left out pieces I paid for when bagging my clothing. I only realized once I got home and went through my bag but it struck me as careless and lazy to leave out pieces I purchased. I would recommend going to any other second-hand store in the philly area before going here. Especially considering the selection was below mid.

When I went there, my card had issues and taking a while to be scanned by the card reader. The cashier apologized and I said no worries. I know whats it like to be a cashier, and I was in no rush. Also, I checked behind me, and there were no other customers behind me. My card declined, so I started looking through my other shopping bags for another one. The cashier was so rude and dismissive about it. I dont think I took longer than two minutes before she asked quickly if she could get the manager. I said no its fine, and I asked her about other ATMs in the area, so I could grab some cash and come back. She acted so weird about it. She said I dont know, and I couldve sworn she rolled her eyes. I kept calm because maybe this happens a lot and she didnt believe me..? But that was so rude. I came back and got my belongings in less than five minutes and was helped by a more professional associate. I havent gone back since.

I absolutely love this store! Thrifting is always hit or miss, but I have more hits here than misses that s for sure. Definitely recommend! The staff are super friendly here, and the long line for selling AND for buying says a lot about this location. If you re in town, you should absolurely check out this Buffalo Exchange!

garbage. one of the staff members racially profiled my friend. a grown, white woman claimed that he stole a shirt and staff believed her without any evidence. he didnt even have a bag on his inventory. all he did was hold the shirt and he was still in the process of shopping in the store. staff then proceeded to kick him out. they ruined his experience, this was his favorite store.

Clean and well-appointed, worth zeroing in for what you need. Somehow was unable to buy any extra-large garment sizes for my woman friend. As many reviewers indicate, most Buffalo Exchanges, including my experience from those in NYC, buy little or nothing, and simply pay little.

I tried selling to them. Took a lot of time and effort and zero results. They bought nothing and I sent high quality stuff. Disappointed and frustrated. Would never do again, with them or another similar service. Youre better off selling your stuff on ebay.

Just left Buffalo Exchange to sell some mens clothing. I had an appointment, but there was still a line - about a 20 minute wait. I brought one bag of button up shirts. They accepted about half. They really dont want dress shirts and the like - suits, trousers, etc. are not part of their interest. I walked away with about $85. I would have liked a bit more, but happy to see a segment of our closet pared down. The buyer was extremely nice! Ive also found some treasures here over the years, including a stunning Kate Spade bag for just $35.

Awesome thrift store to find some steals if you re into fashion and clothing. It s hard to go in and not walk out with a deal on something. The staff is super particular with what they want when it comes to trade ins so call ahead and ask or you will walk out with the clothes you wanted to get rid of.

I dropped 3 bags of clothes a few days ago and all of them were in good condition. I didnt get a single penny. They were like its out of fashion. Hated the service and the whole process is just a scam. Never ever going there and selling my stuff!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!

Friendly staff but was very disappointed with the store and its buying policy...after reading about the store on its website and calling the store I truly was hoping it would be a much better experience than other trading/ buying stores. Buffalo Exchange also wants very current merchandise, and its hit or miss on what they are looking for on that particular day. I called ahead and asked what they were looking for and the response was coats and sweaters. So I brought a lot of coats and sweaters but they 2 sweaters and no coats! Ugh! But at least they were very kind about it!

Based on my observations, I discovered a purchasing pattern amongst the different sellers. There was a notable discrepancy in approval of certain types versus others. But I guess, it is Gentrification City - I mean Center City. This dude obnoxiously stood over our shoulders scrutinizing every single fabric of a resale store! Never again...Goodwill here we come!

Loving all the bad reviews that complain that they don t pay enough when you sell there. Uh, that s how businesses work? Buy low, sell high? And the staff isn t rude. Maybe you were rude to them? I m here plenty, and it s basically a trendy thrift store, precisely as advertised. Scored some cool stuff, never had a problem.

They surprisingly took shirts I didnt expect (Old Jcrew shirts, Old Navy Striped, Express Long sleeves). It seems theyre stocking up for Fall season and was happy to get what got in store credit. Friendly, relaxed shopping atmosphere. Youre thrift picking so the excitement is in the searching! I liked how you can sell old clothes and buy your new style. A++!

Decent selection of clothing and sneakers. Definitely taxing on clothes though. A lot of the prices are retail or very near retail for used clothes. The only way to get a good deal is to bring in old clothes. Theres some clothes with rips and dookie stains that are still overpriced. Only redeeming quality about the store is how well the sneakers are priced which is why im giving 3 stars. Also i give them kudos for not giving out plastic bags and for offering reusable totes.
