The credit union was chartered in response to the concern of New York City Mayor, John Purroy Mitchel, who wanted city employees to have a way to save at reasonable rates and a low cost borrowing alternative to loan sharks.

I ve been with MCU for years. Every bank I ve had gave a courtesy to release my governmental funds earlier. With MCU though it will land in my account by the 24th pending for two days after the fact. Then I have to get through the weekend! Plus the whole business day after just for them to release my funds. Like where s the love for your loyal customers MCU?

Walked in to MUNICIPAL CREDIT UNION Rego Park Branch around 9:30 AM, give or take a few minutes, waited on line at the reception area. A male banker comes to the reception line and assists the customer that was last in line and ignored the fact that I was next, the receptionist apologized on that bankers behalf and stated she was not sure what that was about. Receptionist was very inviting and polite when she informed me that Kenika Jones would be assisting me with opening a business account today, apologizing again for the previous bankers actions towards me. MCU banker Kenika respectfully greets me and walks me to her cubicle, I was asked what type of account I was interested in opening by Kenika, I replied a broker/investment account for financial assets, Kenika smiled and said ok . Kenika states that I would need 2 forms of identification and $25 +paperwork containing finial assets information, after skimming through my paperwork and records Kenika proceeded to make copies. Kenika returns requesting the physical social security card, I informed Kenika that I do not walk around with the social security card, Kenika stated that the social security card was necessary to open the account, I informed Kenika that her actions were unlawful, Kenika proceeded to ask if I have a social security number, I informed Kenika that a social security number is required and linked to IRS paperwork that Kenika had previously photo copied. Kenika walks off and returns informing me that her manager Patricia Pena is here to assist further. Patricia Pena informed me that only individual non business investment accounts were offered at the Rego Park branch, in total confusion I responded I am definitely interested in a business account and that Municipal Credit Union banks indeed offers investment broker accounts, Patricia reiterated what Kenika had previously disclosed, that social security card would be needed anyway (implying that MCU does offer investment accounts). I asked Patricia for the copies Kenika made of my paperwork earlier, Patricia returned with her business card, feeling confused and scammed or blatantly lied to, I thanked Patricia Pena and left the branch. These employees at the Rego Park MCU Branch are acting out of color of law with unlawful cruel intentions. My Family and I hold MUNICIPAL CREDIT UNIONs at extremely high standards, to be treated the way I was by the male banker, Kenika, and the branch manager Patricia Pena, was pure disappoint and disgust.

I been banking since 2016 , never had a problem until now ! When it s a problem they are horrible, someone took out a $1000.00 from my savings account and they than use my card somewhere the first time it went through second and third time the fraud alert blocked both transaction , I go to bank saying it wasnt me and I don t want another card or one mail , I don t really use the account except in a emergency , block all money coming out , same day at a different branch someone take $1000.00 from my savings account , I go back to the bank tell them I never took out a $1000.00 , they ask me if I have a military ID I say no , they say well someone got your info , ! You would think the account is frozen and blocked nope someone goes back to bank and take out $2000.00 from my savings account , with the fraud alert you would think it would come to my phone , nope when I find out the bank is closed I have to wait until mon so in total $5048.95 was taken out of my account in four days! 7/16/24 Tue $1000.00 checking $1048.95 7/17/24 wed went to the bank 7/17/24 wed $1000.00 savings 7/18/24 thu went to the bank 7/19/24 fri $2000.00 savings 7/20/24 sat find out by checking my account in the app can t call the bank or even go bank close ! Smh it s easy to get a personal loan , credit card , car loan but but when something happens to your account the help is horrible , I will update Mon 7/22/24 ! 7/22/24 called finally , got the right solution , now I have to do my part , smh I hope they get better when things happens the response time sucks ! But some of it is me , put a security password or add password to your account ! I stand on my words , it s good for a lot of things but they horrible in situation !

I would like to give a special thanks to Anita for all the help shes given my husband and I. When we first joined MCU, she took the time to explain all the benefits MCU has to offer, especially as city employees. She assisted us with obtaining a loan and made the process very smooth and easy. She is very responsive via email and phone calls. We recently needed assistance, so we contacted her directly and she did everything for us via the phone. She totally saved us a trip into location! I highly recommend Anita. Went to this MCU branch with my husband to open a new account and look into a personal loan. Kavita was our representative and we couldnt have been more lucky to have her assigned to working with us. She was extremely professional, helpful, patient, and kind. She even stayed after the branch was closed on a Saturday just to make sure everything was submitted and taken care of so there was no delay. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was as we discussed and followed up by phone and email to keep me in the loop about anything that was missing or needed, and she even laughed at my husbands corny jokes. I truly recommend anyone that needs something done at MCU to ask for Kavita because she makes everything so easy.

I have tried to use the services on the phone but nothing beats how helpful and accommodating they are at this branch. I needed help setting up payment for my loan and they couldn t set anything up for me over the phone. Worst Bank ever!!! You arrive early for your appts, only to be seen a couple of hours later. Poor customer service, hard to get ahold of a live Agent on the phone, and had issues depositing a check through the mobile app, just so many inconveniences. Im done with MCU!!! I ve been a MCU member for over 25 years and have always been satisfied w/the basic banking (savings) I ve done w/them. Recently I went w/their financing program to buy out my car s lease, and unlike my experiences w/purchasing an auto in the past, it was a very smooth experience. Never ceases to amaze me time and time again how annoying banking with mcu can be you would think with everyone getting their retros they would ve had more staff to handle the insane lines they have mind you all I wanted to do was make a cash withdrawal but of course their atms don t want to read my barely month old card so now I m forced to try and wait on line but with 3 clerks and 1 person at their front desk the line was ridiculous there shouldn t be a reason why my card is unreadable at the atm to begin with it s only a month old

Had a quick and efficient experience at MCU Rego Park. Customer service needs some work. Waited quite sometime to be seen by anybody at the front desk. Then I was told it would be a 2 hour wait. I said I d make an appointment and was then asked what the issue was. I shared that it was regarding one of my accounts and the representative proceeded to ask me personal questions about my concerns at the front desk which is public and not private. I did not feel comfortable talking about my account so openly and I shared that I would rather sit down and discuss privately at a desk to review documents. She proceeds to discuss my business out loud and asks if I want copies of the documents. I decided to just leave.

You open an account thinking they will treat you right. But at the end you realize that this is the worst institution ever. Only one branch per borough. If you use a different atm 3 dollars fee beside the atm fee. A private company tried to charge 5 times an amount from my checking account. I didn t have enough money to cover it, but i had money in my saving account. Guess what they did. They charged me a 32 dollars not enough money fee 5 times. And when my checking account went negative, they took money from my saving account the five times to cover the negative balance. Why they didn t do that the first time to cover the amount the company was charging instead legally steal my money.

The worst online information especially about branch location services. Be careful of the misleading online full service locations with only a ATM machine stuck in a corner or basement of a commercial building for withdrawals only. Similar experience as most other members. Long wait for basic services, understaffed, virtually no customer service, limited branches and atms that always have issues, and coin machine out of service so long they have a permanent sign on it. Constant mobile banking issues. For a financial institution their services to the members whos money they hold, especially for city workers, are unacceptable. MCU do better, be better, provide the people of this city with better service. FIX AND KEEP THE COIN MACHINES OPERATIONAL!!

Th absolute worse. I am closing next Tuesday. Monday is a holiday. I tried to make an appointment for teller services but couldnt. Went to the branch on Ralph Ave. Brooklyn. I was turned away even after explaining because I had no appointment. They are inconvenient and do not have their customers needs as a part of foundation. Also, the automated system iis the absolute worse. When you your money you cant access it.

So Im on the phone with the answering service if course and the machine tells me the i have to wait 37 minutes for representative so i waited like 40 minuts,after all that time the machines tells me 2 more minuts and you call will be answer by the next agent. In and out rather quickly. I was there early, 8:30 and they opened at 9. The parking lot across the street IS NOT city parking, its private. I found parking along the street rather easily. WARNING: the street adjacent to the back is no standing for the entire block. As far as the bank, I was greeted warmly, went through the line quickly and was in and out of there in 10 min. By far my quickest MCU visit in history. You cant even get a number in 5 min at 2 Lafayette. This will be my new branch!

I worked in a bank as a teller for 3 years and never heard this. So my ATM card got stuck in the machine the previous night . i go to the branch to go retrieve it was first told by the head teller she never saw it to come find out it was sitting behind her. I asked her for my card back gave her my id verified it was me my card described it whatever you can ask for. She went to get her manager magalie B. Who told me it was my fault the atm ate my card and i can not get it back because its their policy I asked well where is this policy written and she continued to brush me off. What a joke. Place is run like a DMV. Long lines and only a few tellers daily. Also not much privacy when you have account issues. The cubicles need more privacy. But the staff is nice. Also mcu lies about your credit score when you apply for a loan to stick you with a higher interest rate and less amount of money that you ask for. You are better off going thru lending tree or credit karma. The offers and rates are better. Im glad mcu did me dirty and pushed me to find a better loan with better terms. I was given the money I requested and a way lower interest rate. And mcu is so old school. They give you paper checks to mail on your own to each creditor and tell you mail it yourself, certified mail. Most if not all lenders either put the money into your account or electronically pay each creditor. Mcu needs some updating. Seriously..... Get a clue mcu!

Clean helpful Branch. Bit DMV -like in terms of taking a number for specific transactions. Wait time not bad. Staff seem knowledgeable of products and procedures. Even the security guard and insurance sales rep greet and aid folks to check in. See banking rep Jasvir Dhaliwal for premium service. Lady actually walks you over to the teller. Would have given 5 stars but the ATMs over the years have their moments of being out of service -but more machines than Other branches -. Also would have given 5 stars if this branch had longer hours EVERYDAY!

This bank is like DMV. Waiting time just to reset your pin # of your account is 3 hrs. You get a fricken ticket for everything. Worse bank ever. Seriously thinking of closing my accounts.

I am not sure of what has been going on but the tellers are extra extra slow for the past couple of visits and there are 9 teller windows the bank is usually packed and only 2 maybe 3 tellers are there. I have been very unhappy these past couple of visits. However the staff are always nice but who ever is managing this place needs help.

Early Saturday morning run to bank to turned out to be a pleasant and professional experience!! Not crowded, clean, quick service and knowledgeable representative. Will go back there again, my local branch (SG) is a mad house and many reps seem bothered by your presence. Only con - replacement card machine not working today.
