The credit union was chartered in response to the concern of New York City Mayor, John Purroy Mitchel, who wanted city employees to have a way to save at reasonable rates and a low cost borrowing alternative to loan sharks.

I created my account because I have heard great things about MCU, but getting through to customer service is the absolute worst with the automated system. Once you speak to a rep it s a hit or miss they all sound like they re unhappy with their jobs and your debit card don t ever try to use it after hours there is no number on the card to activate it so you have your wait until they re open, I m sure it was with the original letter it came in but who ever reads that anyway. I would sum up banking with MCU being similar to when you were still under age living with parents and needed to call to get permission for everything if you lock your account call them so they can unlock it, creating your account for the first time yeah they might need to do that for you, want to activate your card call them when they re open. I would definitely have my child banking with them for sure.

I have been a member of MCU since the 1980s. Over the years I have had good experiences and sometimes not so good ones. I am writing this review to bring attention to one particular employee. Ms. Sandra Bedasse-Frederic I have had the pleasure of being attended to by Ms. Bedasse-Frederic on several occasions. She has treated me with the outpost respect, kindness and patience. She takes the time to explain in detail whatever it is I am embarking on. As a senior, I am often not as on point however; with patience Ms. Bedasse explains in a way that allows me to go forward with confidence. When I tell you for the first time ever I met a person in customer service that is the definition of great customer service. I went into this mcu branch for the first time. I saw a teller and had a question for someone. Amber Timmons called my name after I checked in. This lady was like the mulitasker multifixer best person to work with. I cant begin to explain how over and beyond she went for me. I sat with her for a hr and she smiled through her mask the whole time. Giving me credit advice, account advice. And helped me find charges from 2yrs ago. I NEVER do in store compliments but even after just finishing a 18hr shift and tired I HAD to tell someone how amazing of a worker she was to me. The teller was nice also. This was a really really good experience for me today. Thank you thank you thank you Amber for all your help. Im able to move forward thanks to you.

On Tuesday 9/19/2023 i and my wife went to the MCU branch @ Springfield. We were advised to upload documents for our HELOC. However we could not MSR Dashawn I. and MSR Sandra B. were able the documents they were a lot of documents and Sandra assisted me in creating my SSA account to retrieve my Award letter. Yesterday, I did my banking at the Springfield Branch, in Springfield Gardens, NY. I was assisted by one of your branch representatives,Ms. Maleka Christopher. I would be remiss to say how pleasant, knowledgeable, patient and helpful she was with my banking needs. I felt comfortable and at easy with her expertise on showing me how to navigate your new banking app. Ms. Christopher was very due diligent in doing her job. I had to share this with the Branch Manager, Ms. Shaquana Bowles before I left. She needed know of my excellent experience in banking because of her staff member, Ms. Christopher. I also informed Ms. Bowles that it was a great reflection on her as being a due diligent manager in training her staff in customer service. I had a surprisingly great experience at the MCU springfield Branch and I have to thank representative Precious Bradley! She was extremely helpful and patient. I had a million banking questions and she took her time and answered every single one. I didnt feel rushed at all and the service was great! She walked me through the entire process from start to finish and made sure I really understood the terms of the loan, the numbers, the interest rate and due dates! I couldve have asked for a better experience or better customer service rep. I was hesitant at first but I will most certainly be back to this MCU because of my experience with Precious! Its been some time since I used my MCU account and I discovered some fraudulent activity on my account. I recent went into to the Springfield branch for some assistance. It turned out my account was hacked and all my money was withdrawn over a long period of time. I was very disturb and troubled with this information. Turns out there is even a time stipulation on retrieving your money back. Just as I was about to loose my cool I was was helped by Patricia D, their MSR. Her mannerisms and professional helped me through this entire ordeal. She helped me understand all the in and outs. Even when it seems like I would have to take a total loss she went out her way to find ways to help and got me back in good standing and willing to keep my account with the bank. Great job MCU for picking staffing that represents what great work ethic and etiquette should be. She is definitely a reflection of what MCU wants for their customers. You dont get that every where you go. When when you do it is easily noticed and greatly appreciated!

Got my bank card as at when dueNot getting access to better Insurance/loan/mortgage approvals is because of bad credit report shouldnt be a thing anymore. A faster approach to improving credit is by repair hacktivist on instagram @ webghost33 who helped me remove negative charges and inquiries faster. Cleared my credit card within three weeks and i watched my scores increase a few points up. State farm is already doing their job of monitoring and improving your insurance but it should be regardless of your status. I got a better insurance deal with my new Chevrolet. Glad i took the right steps which gave a faster result, and now my scores went up in due time. webghost33/instagram

I recently went into this MCU branch and it was packed with customers but thankfully Patricia the MSR that assisted me in closing my old account and opening a new one made the process very quick because I can tell she knew exactly what she was doing and although she said it could take a while because my previous account had quite a few restrictions on it in which she had to make a few calls to get removed and she had to wait for a override from her supervisor but she handled it all very diligently and I was in and out of there in 20-30 mins max but she really defines what excellent customer service looks like.

I have been a member of MCU since 1991. I do all my banking at the Springfield location. The management as well as the employees are very kind and extremely helpful. When I needed to withdraw money to take care of business due to my mom s passing the teller as well as both manager s extended their condolences to me and that meant so much to me. Such an unprofessional group of people. Lack of staff causes staff to be inhospitable and rude. They re never much help. It s always an unpleasant attitude stemming from the temples of the reps here. MCU may not be the most convenient of banks since they close everything off including customer service on the phones after 5PM but I know most of the big banks couldn t have gotten me an interest rate under 3% in this current economic climate where I stresses are being hiked by the Fed so often. This branch is way more organized than the Hempstead Turnpike branch and the staff are more helpful. Shoutout to Leyla Lide from the St Albans branch for helping me out yesterday. She is amazing!

Springfield Branch: If I could have given 0 stars I would have. This location is terrible, racist, rude, careless, 0 customer service, this young lady Shaquana, the manager, is as rude as her staff and they lie so much too, dead in your face, how disrespectful. They can t even treat black people like them right and they expect for other people to treat them like human, start by changing the man in the mirror first. I asked the manager for the complaint line not only she wrote it with a marker she new would quickly disappeared it was also the wrong number, she had no name tag on, she gave me a name I am not even sure if that s her correct name. MCU in general is complete trash. They will make you endorse your tax return check for MCU deposit only then rejected your check and tell you oh well you re out of the money . You cannot walk in you have to make an appointment, they won t see you without one. This branch is especially bad, idiotic unhelpful employees. No AC on an 80 degree day, only a fan pointing toward the front desk. And even when you have an appointment they don t see you on time so you can sit there and sweat while you wait. Closed my account asap.

Always long lines and never enough tellers. This use to be the only location with working coin machine, it is now out of service at this location also. For a financial institution that handles city employees accounts its a disgrace. The lobby atms seem to be out of service today as well. Get it together.

I ve been a member of MCU since 2004, and this branch on Springfield Blvd is by far the worst. Every time I go to the Springfield Gardens branch I m on the line for a teller 05-28 minutes which is ridiculous I go to other branches Elmont, Brooklyn, Queens Blvd etc and they all give great service, no long wait time for the tellers, fully staffed I m in and out within 10-12 minutes for teller services

Worst bank ever overall, in-service and over the phone. Atms are always messed up, overcrowded, its takes up to 1 hour to speak to a customer service representative on the phone. The atm malfunctioned during my deposit, and ate up my $240. As a customer why do I have to wait 7-10 days while the bank investigates? The cameras can clearly see my transaction. Why must I wait so long, when its the machines fault. Its truly sad how MCU is ran as a bank. Im going to switch my bank ASAP, deserves zero stars.

MCU has allowed another customer to pay their bills with my account nbr. Been waiting two months for account to be refunded. No updated emails concerning my complaint as if l never filed a dispute. Customer sevice definately could be better!!!

Worst bank I have been too very nasty manager don t work with the people place was completely empty and they were refusing people to go in because they were not trying to work very lazy had people waiting out side when the bank was empty we re letting in 2 people at a time security was disrespectful need an appointment to see a teller or anyone when the bank is fully empty talking about they not allowing anyone with out an appointment could not do something simple like pay off a loan never would I come here again worst mcu branch

Long lines to see a teller. Not enough tellers and managers dont acknowledge the lines to open up another window. Long ATM lines because people dont want to go to the tellers. Long wait to see a Customer service representative at certain times. Security are not doing a good job with social distancing.

Just tried to pay a bill at the ATM that machine took $1000 from me then gave my card back and said machine error. im going in first thing in the morning and im not leaving until they give me my money back! and then im closing my account. i hate dealing with them and their broke ATMs. If you know like i know youll close your account fast. I just kept the account for the credit card, but to hell with them and there card.

Me and partner opened our account there without any problem or any issues. Service was fast and convenient to an open account. Wait time was reasonable to see representative with there self check-in kiosk. Which is a lot better then big banks like chase, citi and td bank who doesn t have it. To do deposits or withdrawals with cashier at the counter seem bit packed but it is vary smiler what you will see at any other bank. Overall good service at location but i think MCU need to change in there products like Mobil app, more atm options and better looking products .

The employees look like they re at a club and the atm never work. When I opened my account they opened my account with the wrong ssn ( I provided the card itself to them) one day i had an issue with my account so i called customer service and couldn t gain access to my account because the ssn doesn t match.

They are the worst and for many years the only branch in the area. The staff are rude and unprofessional. They dress as though they are going to the club. They close the branch early sometimes without notification. Outside are gang members hanging out selling candy at the door. They threaten you if you do dont answer them or purchase candy from them. One of them attempted to fight my son because he told them we were not interested in buying candy. Not a good look for a bank.

This place has the worst ATM machines EVER!!!! always down and then you have to fill out a form ( which I guess is standard procedure ). The issue is that I made them aware of the machine and sugemgest they put a notice on it and its, its not my dept ... About 15 people more come after me after using the same ATM...which could have been avoided if someone just walked out there with a piece of paper and tape.

The manager here is so rude, nasty, and inconsiderate. Important documents were needed to finish and the person helping me was nice enough to allow me time to go run home & get it. I came back before the time I was given and the manager was so discourteous to not allow me back inside, so all the process we went through is out the window. Thank you.

ATM always a problem especially when the branch is closed. Wont even take deposits, thus is a recurring problem with this location. If your lucky enough to get a rep on the phone there is no assistance either. Do have auto bill payments because you may not be able to put your cash in.
