The credit union was chartered in response to the concern of New York City Mayor, John Purroy Mitchel, who wanted city employees to have a way to save at reasonable rates and a low cost borrowing alternative to loan sharks.

Constantly rubbing their heads and eyes like they just want you to go away so they can do nothing. I never thought about going back to citi bank but, MCU will have you think about it.

The atmosphere sucks, you will be on the line for an hr and only 3 to 4 tellers working, when there 15 tellers seat open. I hate coming here. They need to do better for all there locations.

If could rate ZERO I would. MCU operation is NOT for todays world. There is no use for this Credit Union. The Call Center has been sending emails for a Branch Manager to return a call to me and I havent received a call to date. How ironic that this Credit Union holds your funds and never allows your deposit

I had to replace my debit card bc I lost my wallet. I went to MCU on Jay st in brooklyn, today, with my dog..the gentleman at the account services desk, African American with glasses, helped me to supposedly get a new debit card. He comes out to give me the card and I did try it b4 I left the branch, it said declined, but I thought I did something wrong and I left..as I am looking at the card, its the same numbers that I was trying to replace..the idiot gave me back the same damn card I gave to him. I am so upset that I have to go back to the bank bc of his not focused demeanor

This bank is the worst they always have empty teller windows while the majority of workers are all walking around talking and doing nothing, in the meantime the lines are long and out the door. But what s really aggravating me is I deposit a check but they put a hold on the check for 8 days even though I have a bank account with a direct deposit from my job I the meantime I need my money to handle obligations Iam currently out of work with a fracture. I called the bank and the operator said that it they would release my money to me but still nothing, this Credit Union is not all it s crack up to be not to mention the atms they don t have various locations

The worst place to do business. On 4/26/24 Saturday at approximately 9:15 am. I stood on the information line for an half and hour I was told that my name would be called after seeing 2 people that was behind me name being called I went back to the nonattentive clerk and asked why wasnt my name being called. He then looked in the computer and didnt see my name and proceeded to again asked for my ID and pretnd to put my name back in the system after hearing 2 other people name put in the system at this point I demand see the Manager the manager. He then pretent again to act like he spoke to the Manager I then ask the lady to see if she could tell the Manager that I would like to see him I was told he after waiting an additional 20 mins. When the representative called another person I went to her and asked if she could get the Manager for me She became a little rude and told me that the Manager was on a phone meeting so would I like to see him or wait for my name at the point I demanded to be seen right away because I did waited at this point going on an hour. I NEVER GOT TO see the Manager because the workers basically look out for each other when treating the memebers like crap. The person never apologized for his wrong doing by not putting me in the system instead he brushed it off like it wasnt nothing.The Manager never came out I heard him on the phone but when a worker went back there to his office he addressed there question even the person that helped me she didnt know how to handle my issue she went to him and he told her what to do after the credit card dept told her that the Manager had to handle the situation so he never addressed my issue nor did he speak to me. Just disgusting looking for another credit company to do business these workers are the worst as well as the manager. From what I see the Manager is passive aggressive and just walk around throwing his dreads out of his face and dont really want to communicate with the members. You can tell by the workers behavior that customer service is not one of their strong points they are just unbelievable rude. They need a whole entire new staff even a new manager people that knows how to treat others. This Manager definitely approves bad behavior from the staff.

Be aware of this place. They are thieves! They stole my money. Do not do business here! I came to this place suggested by a coworker shopping around for good mortgage rates. She had mentioned MCU rates maybe lower than regular banks. When I asked, they were about .50% lower, which when talking about rates make a difference. I wasnt ready to buy yet as my offer hadnt been accepted. After waiting for over an hour, I finally met with a customer service representative, who said that in order to be able to borrow I needed to be a customer and told me to open an account. I asked if there was any fees on their checking account, and she said no fees. I remember I asked because I know conventional banks charge them. However, she swore there was none, so I opened the account with $200. Then covid hit and didnt borrow money from them. A few years after, I received a letter saying that my balance in the account was zero. I went to MCU to ask why and they told me the account had service fees $6.99 or something like that every month. I said that I was told there was no fees. The guy said that was only for the first year. Something I was never told. Not once I received a statement, letter or notification that fees were being taken. Nothing, just that one that said my money was gone. I went there several times, waited hours and hours, called and wrote letters to their main branch, talked to the someone that said it was the mamager/VP and nothing. They will not refund the money. I even offered to deposit more money if the original $200 was reinstated. Nothing. My money was gone. My hard earned money. They took it and wouldnt want it back. Of course they lost a costumer for $200, which is nothing for a huge corporation like this but means so much o me. A regular hard working person.

I came to the 340 jay street branch on Wednesday 3/13/2024 and had the worst experience in my life. I had to come and get a new card and Guerline Cesar which was a MSR was very rude and unperfessional, I was waiting in the line for a least 15 minutes and someone who had an appointment skip the line which nobody knew about they where no announcements. She then screamed out well know you know very rudely she continues to ho back and fourth with head movements and this is not the first time this lady act this way towards clients, She needs to be discipline for her actions. This should not be tolerated from any MSR, we are customers and would like to be treated as such.

Where can I start, I visited this location several times and only met with a very few who s pleasant or willing to help. I rarely leave review s however this caused for one. Around the beginning of January I was assisted by a woman named Roxanna, I went to add direct deposit to my account and the whole time she gave me attitude and was talking with her hands. I thought maybe I was asking too many questions as I m new to this. I was so annoyed by her that I proceeded to leave. While walking out, I overheard her talking about me to another lady. She stated I talk to much and she wanted me to hurry up so she can go home I felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcomed. When I ask to talk to a manager the lady at the front desk can t remember her name but something with a G said he s busy in a meeting and we are about to close I will never return here, please retrain your staff on customer service or get rid of the staff who s uncaring.

I recently experienced an interaction of exceptional customer service that merits recognition After two long phone calls with phone support (on a Saturday) that didn t yield any results I had to make arrangements to visit the Jay Street Branch first thing Monday morning to rectify an issue with an inbound wire transfer. I recently opened a new account with MCU and have been a bit underwhelmed with the availability to customer service. I was a bit annoyed and not expecting to solve my issue with the first representative I d be speaking to. Ms Kamesha Blake astounded me. She listened, asked clarifying questions, she picked up the phone to get us further assistance and she solved the problem. After clearing that issue I had ALOT of other unanswered questions/problems. Again, she patiently listened, interjected with clarifying questions, sought out answers and explained/resolved issue after issue. She delivered world class service, complimented with empathy, respect and an authentic human connection. Truly and honestly a rare thing to find these days. So much so that here I am, submitting a positive review to publicly share kudos and appreciation to Ms. Kamesha Blake. Thank you for all of your assistance, professionalism and understanding.

This has been the single worst banking experience Ive ever had. Ive been with MCU a few years now and they only get worse every single time. Its impossible to get anyone to help on the phone. Something is always being compromised that results in hundreds of customers showing up at once to resolve the same issues. The business hours are GARBAGE, and they dont even make up for it by have a phone service AT ALL. The AI voice command that was enforced without a single customers consent doesnt even work. We used to be able to pay our bills at the kiosks, but now we cant. Im always behind because my job hours are longer than MCU is ever open. This review is longer than MCU business hours. The staff, although lovely, is slow because they are used to things being a mess and the customers being upset about it (my opinion). There is no sense of urgency at MCU. Its almost like they dont know they are working with our HARD EARNED MONEY THAT IS OURS. Why is our money always compromised? WE LITERALLY NEED IT TO LIVE. MCU destroys trust in the word union. Absolute, pure, unsaturated garbage bank.

MCU offers good interest rates on loans compared to traditional banks. Besides them charging me extra interest on additional payments on my loan in the past, Ive so far enjoyed a positive banking experience with MCU.

I would not recommend that anyone join MCU. Interest rates are no longer lower than most commercial banks and customer service is abysmal. Sorry, but MCU is not what it used to be. I have been a member for 16 years and they are treating my like garbage. I had never faced this before. MCU used to regard its members, but they no longer care. I have been trying to get in touch with the lease buyout department for the past three weeks, but they refuse to call me back and said they already spoke with me. I have sent complaint letters because the same department lied to me and harassed me. MCU never wrote back and I just keep getting the run around. I guess there is no accountability and staff can do whatever they want. It is really sad that you can no longer count on MCU.

I walked into the Downtown Brooklyn 350 Jay Street Branch of MCU. I was so upset about a past Secured Loan. I was even calling the BBB and also very frustrated with MCU. However, I worked directly with Member Service Representative, Ms. Kamesha Blake, who immediately resolved so many issues for me as she unpacked problems on a deeper level. Firstly, my phone contact information in my MCU Profile was completely incorrect. So when MCU called or texted me in the past to resolve this issue, of course communication was non - existent. I thought I was being ignored. Ms. Kamesha Blake updated and verified all my information and meticulously and very professionally explained how a Secured Loan works. Ms. Blake was so patient and she printed out my statements and also highlighted transactions to my complete satisfaction. I am so happy that Ms. Kamesha Blake restored my faith in MCU and I am indeed a Happy - and - Satisfied Customer!

This isn t about the specific branch it is about MCU as a whole. I would throw my money into a fire before I ever let MCU hold it! The absolute worst bank I have ever in my life dealt with. Call center employees are an absolute joke! They completely lack any sort of listening skills and are severely undertrained at customer service skills. The hours are abysmal. Having problems with your account or accessing your money past 5pm or on the weekends, may as well find someone to borrow money from bcus they are closed to assist you. Oh and give them your ssn, your acct #, your pin#, address and phone number but forget your last transaction on the account and yeah they are unwilling to help you. This is an unbelievably atrocious bank to use to hold your money.

Worst mcu branch this far . If you have 45-60 minutes to waste then this branch is for you . Employees refuse to do their job they are laughing and giggling instead of taking customers. My name and I d were taken down and after 40 min of waiting i went to the line for them to tell me name was never put in the system even though i gave the man my id.

Although, Ms. Butler ( at the downtown Brooklyn) did point me to the problem as to why my sons square account was charge, because, of insufficient funds. It still remains that the problem was caused by that fact I was never informed of your November changes to the system. Seriously, just by stating that he should have switched the money from his saving (priary account ) to his checking account. That still doesnt replace the $26 that was taking out. That is the core problem. Thank you for your time.

How secure is MCU employment that someone feels comfortable brazenly lying about services to customers? I visited this branch last Friday 7/22 to use the coin machine; when I saw it was out of service, I asked a staffer (who didnt wear a name tag or identify herself) when the machine would be fixed and her response was to call the number on the back of my debit card to find out. That number is listed as an option for lost/stolen cards and none of the several automated menu options on that phone line lead to any clarity on if one coin machine at one branch is working on a particular day.

I scheduled an appointment for 9:45 am. It is now nearly 11 am and I am sill waiting along with at least a dozen other people. People shouldn t have to take off from work for several hours to attend an appointment at the bank. There s also no parking in the area, which makes the situation far worse because you have to pay for parking. The staff has been completely unhelpful and unresponsive when asked about the timeliness. They re already at work so they couldn t care less about everyone else s employment. Their blatant disregard for their clients is palpable and deeply unprofessional. I d highly recommend banking elsewhere.

This branch provided me with zero assistance. After dealing with customer service all week and finally being told my account was reinstated, after being a victim of fraud. I get to the 350 Jay St branch and am now I m being told my account is restricted. I showed the email that came from the FRAUD AND SECURITY department stating that after providing them with the requested documentation, my account has been reinstated. The branch manager stated that it was not noted on my account and there was nothing he could do. This was complete nonsense and I am having a very difficult time believing that. I did not generate the email myself. So due to miscommunication within MCU I m unable to deposit a check that I have WORKED for into and account I ve had since 2013 because the brand manager claims he cannot override the system. I am frustrated, disappointed and completely done. The branch manager was insensitive and did not even attempt to assist.

I ve been a member since 2013 and if all you need is a debit/credit card? Great. Customer service is the worst ever. I ve been on the phone for as long as 3 1/2 hours for a representative and a minimum of an hour wait. I avoid calling like the plague. Within the past few days, I attempted to send my daughter money through Apple Pay (iMessage) and I was declined a few times and eventually found out that my zip code was the issue. Called and waited 26 minutes and was told you tried too many times but wait 5 minutes and the problem should be resolved. I followed instructions and was declined. I called back to find out that I made too many transactions and should wait 24 hours which I did. After 24 hours, I was declined again, I called back. I was screened like a fraudster (that s ok) and was told an Apple representative would call me back within a 24 hour timeframe! I asked, shouldn t I call Apple instead? the response was NO. So I called Apple just to make sure all was well and now I m looking for another bank for lack of customer service, support and access to my money; through the medium of my choice. I can wait till Friday to get my paycheck instead.

The Experience is great here. Everyone is so helpful. Manager of this branch gave me great customer service. I truly recommend this branch. Manager made sure he accomplished what I needed, very helpful. Everyone was very professional as well. Im happy and proud to give this branch a 5 star, they deserve it.

Have an appointment for 12:30pm along with 8 other persons. Receptionist is very courteous and helpful, but the pace at which customers are serviced is simply unacceptable. Ive been waiting for half an hour and my number sequence is not even displayed on the screen. Looks like Ill have to skip this again.

This is not directed towards this branch but to MCU s customer service and how outmoded, confusing and prehistoric it is. All I am wanting to do is reset the pin for my debit card and I have spoke to several people who have been no help whatsoever. I currently live in Ohio so I can not just stop in to get a new card. When I then call and just try to report it missing the person helping me directs me to customer service. Why pray tell would their be a division to deal with lost and stolen cards who funnels their calls to customer service who is not part of the web of information so they are as lost as the person that needs help? Municipal Credit Union with all the years it has been in existence you would think they would fix their antiquated customer service system and ability to do something as simple as changing your debit card pin. For the love of convenience and customer service fix it.

I ve been on the phone for 2 hours and 21 minutes listening to music and automated messages, this is not the first time but this is the longest on phone, I am definitely going to move majority of my money out of here cause when things come up there is no help for rescue real quick or after 5 pm, I ll only would use them for low interest loans, so to add to this I went to the jay street branch just so everyone who does pay roll deduction will know ,my loan was paid off two month but the amount of the deduction is still coming out my check, I was told there policy is to keep taking the money place it in saving account until told to stop and it can be done only in person

Coin deposit machine is broken more than it works. Call before you go there to use it in order to verify it is working THAT DAY. Mind you, you will be on hold about an hour before being able to speak to someone. What a joke.

While the bank is good for building credit and saving money, I have never received such poor customer service via the phone. I have been on hold for nearly an hour while trying to contract them. And they don t even tell you how much longer you have to wait or how many people are ahead of you. I also changed my pin at the bank with the person at the front desk and she stated it will take about 30 minutes to an hour to fully change. It has been 4 days and my old pin and new pin are not working so I can not access my money. It is very upsetting.

Update: Coin machine out of order since the start of of pandemic. Since my last review it has improved some what. There is no more number to take for teller services. You just have to wait on a long line. If you want anything other than teller service you do have to take a number. Prepare to wait a while. When they finally get to your number they do their job well.The other improvement is that you have a coin machine. There is a line of old people changing their coin. I was annoyed that some of the security staff were critiquing, and commenting on customers appearance, and guess they are not busy enough. I found this to be very unprofessional. They close the door by 1:30 pm and they are supposed to close at 2 pm on Saturday. There is long waiting times. If you have to go in make sure you have no other plans. You will be there an hour. The Bronx location is even worse.

I made a deposit early by one day and they refused to cash my check. Now I have to wait for them to send it out of state then back to me. Your telling me that even if its in your position and it was deposited at my branch, then tell me they dont have access to it. They didnt even offer 1/2 of my check to hold me down. Im so sick of these its not my fault workers compensation changed the date. The teller was nice thats all.

i am disgusted with this credit union, its always a problem i would not recommend to anyone even though i have in the past if its not the president or vice president of this company stealing your money its the system from your log in to branch access i deposited my check last week and now its missing i increased my secure card limit and my score dropped 153 points and there is no history of my deposit even though i have a receipt showing that i did deposit my checks i will not continue to vent i plan to go up there tomorrow

At Jay st. Location. Had to make an appointment to reset my login info because no one ever picks up the phone. The actual branch is down the block and inside a courthouse and upstairs. Feels more like a villains hideout than a bank seeing how well they hid it.

I had to make an appointment to visit. The associate who helped me was great. However, make sure to check in early. There were people who claimed to have an appointment, and the person who was checking people in was allowing them to skip over people with appointments. I nearly lost my place in the queue because of that.

This is the worst place to do business. You have to wait hours to do anything even to get a printout of your banking information. They make you stand in line for a teller and even took away the benches for sitting. Ive been here for an hour and Im still 3 numbers away from mine.

Stay away from this location at all costs. Always understaffed and lines are LONG. Tellers move at a smalls pace and management does nothing to alleviate the situation. Ive been to other branches and do not experience the issues do here. I dont know if this location is prioritized lower because of its clientele , but improvemens need to be made

The MCU Bank on Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn is nice to check out if you need to deposit or withdraw and they have ATM Machines inside the bank as well and the people are friendly too and if you only want ATM Machines they have them down the street in this MCU bank one part is seated the other is standing room only check it out if your in the area

Training Needed... I usually leave Brooklyn and go to the Manhattan location just because of how unpleasant the staff is at the Jay St location. I was hoping things had gotten better...The customer service is so bad it is funny...The people calling the K numbers appear to be very angry at customers for no reason. Please send these workers to the Lafayette office to see what customer service and treating your customers looks like.

Ive been with MCU since 2012 with an active checkings account and this union has yet to honor my loyalty with approving me for personal loans or a higher line of credit, for over draft protection. They evaluate harder then third party credit companies.As far as going to the branches on Wednesdays for teller services or atm, its lines swinging around. The fraud systems are very useful. But, ibdont like if you dont answer the automatic call, they will lock your card. I like my early deposits!

I keep my dealings with MCU at a minimum when it comes to going into the branch as its always a nightmare. The wait times are ridiculous most times...that in itself gets on my nerves. WORST BANK EVER. A week ago I went out shopping with my family in Long Island. Then we went to have lunch at a restaurant. I received a call from MCU stating they believe theirs been credit card fraud on my account because the card was used at a Home Depot in Brooklyn. I stated the purchase wasnt mine and their process was to freeze my card on a Saturday. I follow-up with the matter Monday morning and the Manager stated that I need to fill out paperwork that could take up to 7-10days to resolve. And the closest MCU to my home in Oceanside, NY no longer gives out temporary debit cards. I stated to the manager I was a victim of a BS fraud charge of $36 and now I have to wait 7-10days to receive a new card and send you paperwork. I went to the Oceanside MCU and withdraw all my money. I WILL NO LONGER BANK WITH MCU. P.S. MCU has yet to contact me regarding this matter after the conversation with the manager. They dont give a damn about their customers.

Worse customer service EVER !! I mean in any type of business !!! They are the worst of the worst !! After finally getting through to a live person so I could find out early payoff. Amount . I paid my whole loan balance off early , yet 2weeks later the Account still says I owe & no one can tell me why !! But yet they keep calling me every day & being Nasty saying my monthly payment is due and account is being marked for collections !!! I looked into my chase account & it clearly shows the money has been funded to MCU 15days ago So I would like to ask them Do u want me to just keep paying a monthly bill for account thats been paid off in FULL ???

The turnover rate here is 15-45 minutes for a coin machine to be serviced. They all were friendly but I just felt as if I was being passed off over and over again. Every branch seems to have no urgency.

Why would you close at 4 pm on the busiest area at the busiest time ? People were also waiting to go inside and the manager just slammed the door in our faces . Rude ... Then to top it all off the MCU in Coney Island and Staten Island both have down machines to create cards so I have to head all the way to FLATBUSH! Just inconvenient, the entire experience!
