The credit union was chartered in response to the concern of New York City Mayor, John Purroy Mitchel, who wanted city employees to have a way to save at reasonable rates and a low cost borrowing alternative to loan sharks.

This so called bank does HORRIBLE business ON ALL FRONTS. Their app is useless, as well as the staff...AND I MEAN ALL OF THE STAFF! The customer service is nonexistent and everyone has an attitude. They all will speak to and treat you as if youre beneath them and no one will help you with ANY concerns you express. Please save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.

I had a great experience with Jabari, a bank teller at MCU. Even though I arrived a few minutes after closing, he was incredibly kind and patient, helping me complete my transaction without any rush. Jaden Pabon is amazing! She went above and beyond to help my elderly mother, who at first gave her a hard time! My mom is not fond of using technology or online services. Its quite difficult for her at 70 yrs of age. She much rather go to MCU and handle business in person. Unfortenatly Im not always able to go with her. Jaden was understanding, patient, funny, and remained calm. She even spoke with me over the phone to help set up my mothers online account so that she can easily see and print her monthly statements going forward. Its nice to know theirs still good hearted and kind people, that treat elders with respect. Thank you for being wonderful Jaden!

Worst phone service I have ever encountered. They would have you on the phone for hours, questioning if they are open on operational hours! You call their line expect at least 3-4 hours wait time and have your fingers crossed that someone would answer at least. Every time I have called them, I have been on the phone for hours, getting transferred to other lines with no responses what so ever!!

Some of the workers are very rude and have a nasty attitude with the clients(all the time you go there). If you don t like to deal with different type of people don t work there SIMPLE!!! Also, I don t understand why the bank does not leave the Machines to take out money open 24/7. We need that open in Courtlandt ave in the Bronx . The Cortlandt Ave branch in the Bronx has Poor customer service! Unable to access my funds at the ATM after 5pm M-F, and Sat after 130pm until Monday at 8am. This is a great inconvenience, and Im getting fees for using other banks. This is allegedly to stop the homeless. Im confused about why they allow the homeless to block the entrance doors during hours of operation.

The Branch Manager Courtney is very unprofessional , and rude. He lacks sense of urgency and going above and beyond for the customer. He speaks to customers like they are children, and makes very unnecessary comments as the team leader. I liked this branch until I encountered him. I want to share the experience I had finalizing my auto loan from MCU,i went to the branch on a Saturday not knowing that they do not normally handle car loans on the weekend.I spoke to Ms.C.Davis who was gracias enough to take me in,and from the start was very helpful concerned and professional.Ms.Davis did not know this at the time she was processing my paperwork,but I needed a new vehicle like YESTERDAY! I ve heard many things about this branch, but I must mention that the team at this MCU branch is amazing. From the security guard at the entrance, to the customer service representative at the front desk, there is nothing but exceptional service at this place. I have been trying to close my mother s account for a year and a half now since she passed away. Initially when I started the process in December 2021, I had to wait on hold forever just to schedule an appointment for a month later. My appointment was around 3pm. Within the hour everything was taken care of, but they needed to speak to someone or get approval from their main office or somewhere. By the time it was closing, the person never returned the call so they told me to come back. I emailed the rep who helped me several times and she never responded. Eventually, life happened and I forgot to follow up. Fast forward a year and some change, I m on vacation and said, let me finally take care of this. I went to the branch and the lady in the front said someone was supposed to contact me. Obviously no one had or I wouldn t be there. The same rep who helped me before still works there and helped me again. Now she s calling folks putting together some paperwork for me to sign. I sign the paperwork, she leaves her desk and come back to tell me there notary isn t there . She told me to go down the block to another bank and get it notarized. It s been over an hour now and I have another appointment to get to. I go to my appointment, get the letter notarized and come back but she s with another customer and I have to wait about an hour, while someone else is trying to sell me insurance that I don t want. When she finally gets to me and confirms my paperwork, we go to the teller to cut the check. The teller hands her the check and she hands it to me. My dumb behind only checked the amount. When I get home to cash the check, I see it s written out to my deceased mother!!! So the issue is still not resolved. I have to go back in to get a new check.

The staff are unprofessional and lack empathy. I went to resolve a check forgery. The representative (Ms. Jordan) advises me that MCU does not have the capacity to do online bill pay banking. When I demonstrated, on my phone that I do pay bills through MCU, Ms. Jordan refuses to take accountability and says oh well, thats not MCU, thats bill pay! The front window receptionist Ms. Davis states that walk- in are not permitted. The call center, states that I can only resolve this issue in person. I have been a Member for 33 years. I will part ways with this institution, I am in disbelief. The Manager at this Branch, has offered to help me resolve this issue. None the less, I am appalled that these shenanigans are taking place under her watch.

This has to be the worse branch MCU has. Supervisor is always hiding behind closed doors, understaff and over worked associates. Fraud department WHO ?!? My account got compromised had to spend two days to get the matter resolved (first day 2hrs second day 4). One month later same fraudulent ghost company was allow to take money out of my acct and it didn t even get flagged. I work in a furniture store and we have a better system of protection for our clients vs MCU. This is completely unacceptable, I have in the last month spend 5 days at this branch NEVER have I ever SEEN this Branch Manager, is running on autopilot

Did my due diligence and scheduled an appointment in advance to meet with a customer service representative. Its important to mention that I scheduled this appointment because my issue was not handled properly 2 years ago at the Co-op City branch. Arrived 15 minutes early for my scheduled appointment. I wish it allowed me to give zero stars because that s exactly what they deserve, I could ve waited for my card in the mail & got it sooner. To print a card literally takes 2 seconds as the girl said but I had to sit for 30 minutes and be late for work because they were sitting there doing absolutely nothing gossiping, there was not a single customer in the bank when I walked in 30 minutes is insane, if it was busy I d understand but there was literally nobody like bye I would rather go all the way to the Flatbush location than ever come here again.

I just want to say, I came here on my lunch break and everything I needed was taken care of in a timely manner, with the utmost respect, customer service, and expertise (very knowledgeable employees). They work together/organized. I am a satisfied customer with MCU to say the least, overall. I would definitely recommend MCU to anyone and everyone who qualifies. There are so many benefits/quirks available to MCU customers. Ask about them! I would like to add, people are very quick to come and leave bad reviews and a lot less satisfied people leave positive feedback/credit where it is due. Always remember this, when you re looking at anyone else s reviews. Safest thing to do, is to go based off of your own experience. Also if you read far enough, most of these low rated reviews are not based off of this location specifically. Be mindful of that. The people leaving reviews needed some place to vent and chose to vent under this branch location see what I mean about the questionable general public? Geniuses I tell you.

My mother and father have been depositing money into MCU for almost 30 years. They have since retired to Florida and have been trying to close their account with MCU for the last 3 years to no avail. We have sent Power of Attorney, letters to close their accounts and now my fathers death certificate. They continue to ask for documents or letters each time. THEY REFUSE TO GIVE THEM THEIR MONEY!!! My mother is not able to physically go to the MCU in NYC, but if she could they would find some other excuse as to why she cant receive her money. This makes no sense.

The low interest rates are not worth the struggle to get assistance. It is purposely inconvenient, obtuse, and unhelpful. Their hours are ridiculous, they appointments are limited nut they charge obscene fees. What am i paying for if you also cost me Hours upon hours of my time. This bank is too expensive for very little reward. Contacting the BBB next cause there is no way that a bank is still operating as though it is 1993

Municipal credit union is the worse bank. Hold time is over an hour only to be told they cant help and to go in person, but their hours are regular working hours.. they dont even have the courteousity to have extended business hours 1 day a week for working people.. I went on Friday 2/12/2021at 2:45. I was going to the teller. The door was close as well as the gates, and the staff at the door said I was late. I believe it is not right for the members, according to the web site should be open 8:00 - 5:00 pm. This practice must stop. MCU need to review their staff.
