I have had multiple accounts with Sandia Area Federal Credit Union for years, the service is second to none! Their car loans are by far the lowest rates, and I've checked many banks, local and national. Their short term CD rates are full percentage points higher than national competitors with more term options.
They are the only local bank that had an option to get a checking account for my teenager to teach him money management without crazy amounts of fees.
I've financed two cars with SAFCU and each time it's been a seamless process. Their entire team is kind, helpful, patient and very professional! I'll be banking here for a long time.

DO NOT BANK WITH THESE PEOPLE! I was warned by friends in the banksphere that Sandia was a bad company but I didnt listen, and now Im paying for it, literally. Massively unhelpful depending who you get that day. One day they can help, the next they chastize you for wasting their time, the next they make up fees to charge. Go anywhere but here, theyve been a nightmare to deal with in the 6 months Ive been involved with them. One month after they claim to have fixed the issue, what do you know, they didnt, and are trying to charge me an extra $2000 still. You call one person who claims to help, then a month later, NOPE. Awful website as well, I think only NMB&T has a worse website.

After moving to Albuquerque six months ago, I found that continuing with my bank in New York was inconvenient. So I looked around and found SAFCU. I was impressed by the interest rates so I went in to the office. Omar was very capable, explained everything well and the paperwork to open accounts was easy. The office was pleasant and clean and all the people in the lobby were cheerful. I believe I made a very good choice.

Be aware people!!! If you dont use your saving account in one year they will take your money each month dormant fee without even giving you any notice! After finding out, I was told to make a new deposit and i will be given a refund, but after doing so they only gave me 6 refunds out of 12. I am a student and i needed every penny because i pay for my classes, but they did not take it in consideration and I didnt even feel they cared.... very disappointed and definitely I am going to close the account.

Crystal Treat, a member of Sandia Area Federal Credit Union (Candelaria) was on top of her listening skills. Crystal wrote out a receipt for my signature send it to me through Drive Thru. Crystal realizes the receipt and my written request did not match. Crystal contacts me through the speaker to verify what exactly of each different Denominations that I was requesting and had me send back the original receipt and she filled out another corrected copy for my signature. I really thought Crystal was attentive toward her position at the drive thru area. Thank you, Sandia Area FCU for hiring Crystal Treat at your financial agency.

This particular branch was incredibly inefficient the day I came. On average there were 3 customers at any given time, with 6 employees. I was the only one waiting to see a member specialist. I waited for over 15 minutes to see member services, then was told I needed additional information from the same person who checked me in 15 minutes prior.

Wow, Omar: amazingly bad first impression. I needed to open a business account for a new business, and chose to bring my business to this bank because I recently got a good rate on an auto loan through them. I regretted it, and have chosen to take my business to a more professional organization, Nusenda, and here is why. Before I drove over there, I looked on the website for Sandia Area to figure out what I would need to open an account. The website says just call or show up to find out what you need. I called and got my business documents together. When I arrived, I was ignored by the receptionist who was playing on her phone for a few minutes until I greeted her, and introduced myself. Without looking up she asked what I needed and she had me sit down to wait for an appointment with someone about a business account. Here comes Omar. Yells my name from the office door into the lobby (I was the only person in the lobby), and turns away to go back to his desk assuming I would follow him. No greeting, no handshake, did not introduce himself. General attitude of an apathetic teenager, which is a theme I was starting to detect after my experience with the receptionist. We sit at his desk and he stares at his computer while starting to ask some questions until I interrupted him and asked for his name. Great, we have now completed introductions. He gets started on opening the account, and I come to learn that this bank requires hard copy documents to start an account. Great, I have them digitally, Ill just send them to you and you can make your own hard copies, I offered. Nope, this bank cant receive documents and wont print for you. Well that would have been a great thing to let me know in advance so I could bring everything I need to start the account. I let Omar know that I could have brought hard copies if the website or someone on the phone would have let me know, and he responds that yeah, weve tried to get marketing to do that for a while, but it hasnt happened. So they know about the problem but cant perform simple communication through the organization to get it fixed. He gave me an appointment for the next day so I could go home and get the printed documents for him. In the first 30 minutes of interacting with this branch, I have learned that Sandia Area FCU condones an attitude of disinterested apathy in their staff, they have an amazing inability to communicate between departments to solve simple problems, cant carry out simple tasks like receiving or printing digital documents from customers, knowingly avoid listing requirements on their website at the expense of their customers time and effort, and pay little attention to creating a positive or professional customer experience in general. Having researched online, driven to the branch, and generally gone out of my way to bring them my business with zero effort input on their part, I find that they do nothing but make it even harder for me to do business with them when I get there. No thanks. Ill bring my business to another organization that doesnt make it harder for me to give them my hard earned money. I spoke to someone at Nusenda this morning who told me exactly what I need to bring and gave me a same day appointment in just a few hours. Amazingly bad, Sandia Area FCU, I hope I save someone the trouble of struggling to do business with you.

Maria is is cordial and her expertise is something that can t be found it many banks. I was at a previous bank for over 25 years and it was my daughter who kept saying I should join the credit union and it is truly an amazing experience compared to other banks. Maria and the others truly care about the people that come into the bank and treat them as family. Victoria is the reason I bank at Sandia Area Credit Union. Here it was the a few days before Christmas and your bank had long lines of customers. Yet I told Victoria I needed 5 envelopes with 50 $1.00 bills in each envelope to give to my grandchildren on Christmas. I thought Victoria would give me all the 250 one dollar bills and a stack of envelopes due to the amount of people at the bank. Victoria took the time to fill each of the 5 envelopes with the the 50 $1.00 bills without flinching. That folks is customer service with a bow on it! Thank you Victoria for being so kind and making me feel my time was so valuable.

I had the horrible experience of having my account hijacked by an unknown person. So many emotions. Was it something I did that compromised my information? Was it someone I know and trust that was to blame? Where and how did the assailant get my credit card info? My ship was listing, if not sinking, but Kathys calm demeanor was the ballast that kept the ship afloat. After garnering what it was that I wanted to do, she gave me succinct direction as to how to do it. Cudos to Kathy and Sandia Area Credit Union for giving me confidence when my default setting told me that the ship had already foundered.

This branch is horrible. Do not use them!! They are lazy and unprofessional, they don t return phone calls or emails. You need to pressure them several times a day to even speak to someone. Johanna. After weeks of horrible customer service I then went to the branch manager Martianna. That must be where they learn their work ethic of not returning calls. I left her several messages to call me daily! I called the main company to get her direct extension and finally I got a hold of her. We were applying for a secured loan with huge collateral and a six figure income. We couldn t get any answers and then finally after making them mad they said we still didn t make enough money. What a joke. We then went to Wells Fargo and got approved for $20,000 cash signature loan and we didn t even have an account with them at the time We have been members of Sandia Area for quite some time and have had nothing but great experiences until this experience with this particular branch and it s team. We weren t going to mention this experience but the management at Sandia Area needs to hear it. I hope they do.

Young lady at candelaria branch should get training for estate accounts. She was adamant that I needed a court stamp on a document that was not needed. The court approved document was all that was needed. I had to waste a day to contact my attorney for advice. Attorney suggested I go to another branch because I had proper documentation. I went to the coors branch the following day and the bank manager handled everything with grace and respect. I didn t realize profiling would happen at candelaria branch. While checking to see if they would post my review I noticed the surnames of many reviews that were not so favorable. I didn t realize how accurate I was in my last comment. And while the damage is already done, you don t need to reach out because I seem to be right and your staff is just wrong.

Your people in customer service are excellent in their customer service. Well trained; courteous; patient and well informed. My complaint is against the credit card department. I have had 2 charges on my master card that are not mine. Called about 3 different numbers. Over the next severaldays Spent a lot of time on hold with the same awful music. Finally got ahold of 2 different who transferred me back to the same awful music. Finally ion the website I discovered that I could dispute the transaction on the website. Now I m locked of viewing my credit card account. Why would I want to do business with a credit cars company that has more important thing to do when I need help?

The bank as a whole was lagging on my auto loan application which was time sensitive & required my constant follow up to get updates on. Once Jordan took over he knocked it out of the park & he turned around the whole situation. He took ownership & stuck to his follow up commitments to me. I am very impressed by his service so kudos to him for sure because I was frustrated and feeling like giving up on the application completely. I would definitely go back to him for any financial needs going forward.

They provided the best rate on a vehicle loan, but have consistently not received my payments on the date that they are sent. Expect a 2+ business day shift from the time of receipt to the time it gets entered into the system. Prior to my notification of this to SFCU, this was occurring intermittently. This issue has now been consistent for the past 6 months. These additional fees over time stack up. I would not recommend SFCUs services in the future.

As this CU has the lowest interest rates for an auto loan they are awful at customer service. I tried to add cash through an ATM and it got rejected then added it to another account to transfer and again I got denied. No clue why they wont accept my cash and trying to get a hold of them about the situation has been impossible! This is ridiculous!!

As far as credit unions go this is the worst one in Albuquerque. Just like wells Fargo and bank of america they just want to use your money to make money and treat you like $#!* and rip you off anyway possible. The employees are the biggest dolts in the city. Dont waste your time or money go to nusenda they are 100% better.

Very nice staff and super quick to get an account set up. Will update rating more accurately once fully established. Update: Ive had my account for over a month now and every single check I have cashed has been held besides the exception of one or two... I was told that if I wanted my money sooner that next time u would have to cash it at the bank its issued at then to deposit the money in to my account. Also they told me they would release some of my check so I can pay bills... well that was a lie... Im definitely not satisfied with this credit union and will not recommend to anyone.

KINDNESS is so rare in this dark time and so needed. So thank you Zachary and Sandia its a little brighter today! 2 hours later I called back and was again greater by UBER CUSTOMER SERVICE. Before COVID, I went to the Candelaria branch looking to establish an account since moving there. I was quickly waited on, opened my account, and have been banking with them ever since. I use the drive up services, the mobile app, the free coin counter in the lobby (when open) and even their mobile check deposit. I have stopped using commercial banks and only stick with credit unions. This is one of the best ones I have encountered since moving from Texas.

I have been a member for 50 yrs i have not found a better place to bank with or service my loans. Excellent customer service and rates.

I use Sandia Area Federal Credit Union because its a smaller local credit union and not a huge conglomerate bank. The customer service is pleasant & thorough, and I always feel the staff goes out of its way to help. However the branches are far apart geographically within the Albuquerque area, and I find that its difficult to get to one in time when I have to do business within the bank itself.

I have been very pleased with the services provided by Sandia Area Federal Credit Union. I have always been treated well by friendly and helpful personnel. I have noticed this to be the norm at Sandia. Customer service has become hard to find that meets the standards set forth by the credit union. The personnel are accommodating and work hard to make sure your needs are met.

I had a problem with my debt card being cancelled without being contacted prior. Talk with the manager of the branch and got an answer that didn t quite suit me. She said she would talk to the head office about the problem but I have my doubts. We shall see.

You might have seen my review from a few days ago. The bank has since reached out to me and solved the situation. No complaints. Apparently not all possible avenues were considered. I have never had a problem here and I am glad they solved this one so quickly. Now if only they had a live person answering the phone. Haha.

Advertising that they can help people during this pandemic but then you try and refinance a 2017 automobile and they say unemployment is not a source of income. I am not fired or laid off. I am furloughed. The bankers will not take into consideration. The banker did not even ask me if I had a down payment, I guess I didnt look like I had the money. Well I specifically saved up to refinance but your bank will not be getting my money. Thanks for nothing.

Their loan department is a joke, so is their online banking....if you want to call it that. Employees dont have the knowledge they need to take care of customers and they have to call a manager for everything.

Definitely had great experiences here just to cash checks from my job and didn t have an account anywhere to cash them out. Ended up getting an account for a great price. Tellers are friendly, but some are very slow and don t have very much knowledge about anything except the teller side of things. On the other side of the bank like the people dealing with opening accounts etc. some are very friendly and helpful, however the lady that opened my account was not very friendly, talkative and some slightly helpful. She was quick to turn me away to open my account because she said I didn t have proper ID, but I brought everything I was told to bring over the phone and at the branch when I asked. In the end great bank! I wish you could make appointments for the financial side, instead of just walk in, because the branch always seems to be busy.

Felicia and Martiana are the best there is. I went in because the car dealership completely screw up my financing. I went in to Sandia FCU after going 9 times to the dealer and these two got everything fixed and straighten out in a matter of minutes. Thank you, you have a customer for life.

After 60 days if you dont log in to your online account, your account gets shut off. The only way to get it back on is to call them. On top of that, if your online account gets shut off, it will also affect your autopay and your payments will not go through. They seem to have missed the reason for having auto payments in the first place....so that you dont have to log in. Additionally, we didnt know our May and June payments failed and were just notified today (July 3rd) and they act like its our fault their system sucks! The online system is super clunky. It always takes me FOREVER to find what I need to access online. It is not intuitive. Accessing your past statements is also difficult..it goes through a third party service that doesnt work very well (sometimes doesnt load at all). This credit union is not for those that rely on online services/mobile apps. Seems they are stuck in the past. Glad I only have my car payment through them.

This bank has deceptive online banking practices to make money off of fees. We had plenty of money in the account for a trip to Denver and they forced some pending charges through so things would start to bounce. Our account showed positive online but NSF fees were coming out. My wife didnt know anything was wrong because online banking showed the balance as $630 when they said it was minus $130 on there system. I have talked to several clients that this has happened to. Not right...especially when you are on vacation.

This place doesnt support small businesses or even just community. In a pinch and went in with $40 to get some small change and they wouldnt help without an account. It just happened to be the closest bank. Never ever again.

Too many times I have showed up at this location only to have the control freak self law making security guard with serious complex issues confront me negativity. I know it (security guard) has no jurisdiction over me and is equal in the eyes of humanity but this individual has serious personal problems and brings them to work evidently every day

Ive never had a problem there and I experienced my first rude rep. I was in the express lane and the stupid lady had like 6 thransctions and made me wait for 15 mintues without letting me know why. I honked my ride and she was rude about it. They need to let you know like hey it will be a while you can happily wait or walk inside.
