When i first got my loan, these guys gave me a great loan for the times we are in today and I can't thank them enough for that as is.
I recently totaled my motorcycle and was having a ton of issues with just everything. I called and spoke with John A. John was great, very informative, super kind, he helped me out a ton. He also insured me on if there was anything else I need to call him personally and he would do whatever he could. Thank you so much John, I will 100% go threw you guys for any financial needs in the future. I have a very split opinion on freestar, as a bank they suck. When i first opened my debit card it took 4 people and 2 months for them to realize that the only reason my debit card wasnt working was because they forgot to click a box. I told then 7 times to stop mailing & charging me for my monthly statement and it took me calling and complaining for an 8th time for them to do something, however the employees are all extremely nice and its the only reason i dont find freestar

I been with this credit union over five years. The employees at the bank are awesome but there is one in particular that always stood out and that s my girl SHELBY! I try to give reviews often when I receive exemplary service. Here is one of those times. I was having a rough time financially and wasnt understanding some things going on in my account. I called and this beautiful soul by the name of Sherisse(I hope I spelled that right) answered and let me tell you... the patience she showed me was unreal! The worst credit Union I ve ever been to. Update your atm from 1981!!! If you have navy federal DO NOT go here!! They could care less about you or your money! The atm takes money doesn t credit your account then they only give you half of the money you put in after their audit. The manager has the worst attitude in the world as well. I just went inside the Clinton Twp. branch and encountered the rudest, unprofessional teller. She didnt smile, act nice, ask how I was doing, or even ask for my account number. She Instead got very snappy when I asked question and was unresponsive when I asked her to shred my receipt. You should not be working with the public if you cannot be nice. I called the store supervisor.

Having to deal with fraud is never fun even when having to determine the best path to secure an individuals assets. When we realized we needed to secure our accounts. Being late in the day (15 minutes prior to FreeStars closing), my wife and I had the pleasure of working with Chrissy Neal. Not to go into much detail, Chrissy provided my wife and I with a resolution that worked for us. Chrissy was professional, honest, and was amazing to work with to resolve our issue. At first everything was good, they refinanced my truck at a lower interest rate. Now I have changed insurance companies and have faxed and emailed documents several times, however I am continually getting messages, not one phone call, but emails and texts I will be charged over $6000 for six months coverage. I call the numbers provided, always on hold for 20 minutes or longer and no one answers. I cant sit on the phone all day, I do have employment and other obligations. Pathetic excuse for customer service.

Worst bank ever, wont even help with fraud charges. Dont bank with them if you know whats good for you. At this point my whole family will be pulling our money out and finding a better bank.

Update 8/2/2022. We called the number given on the reply and he was able to give us a refund straight away and is sending the problem up, to have the issue with the ATM resolved. Used their ATM. Sign on their machine says no fee for CO-OP members. (My credit union is). Was still charged a $2 fee. When I called about it I was told I had to discuss it with my bank. Never mind its their fee being charged.. wonder what other things they charge for begind their members backs.

We have been members of FreeStar for just over a year. This hands down is the best credit union I have ever been a member of. Jamie Penzin has been there since day one. From assisting with opening our new account to most recently assisting with our new vehicle purchase. Jamie made the process painless and smooth. Her communication is amazing! Recently a new branch was opened in Richmond- and Jamie is now the manager there. FreeStar is so very lucky to have leaders like Jamie on their team!

My only problem is you cannot call these people. It has taken them up to an hour to answer the phone. If I was guessing I would say there average pick up time is 10 to 15 minutes. Actually I liked central macomb better. Same service but they had enough employees to answer the phone

UPDATE..made a deposit and again insufficient fee applied AFTER I physically drove to the bank and made a deposit when their was NO fee applied. I wouldnt recommend this bank for anyone. Tim made empty promises. Told me to call or email in advance and they wouldnt charge my mom. I drove down before made a physical deposit and emailed and I received a call DECLINING a refund from somebody else instructed to call because Tim was TOO BUSY.. I am going to be closing this account as soon as I can. HORRIBLE services. ONE man tries, TIM and its not enough for an entire cooperation. The rest Ive delt with are under knowledgeable and apathetic humans.. not a place I would recommend. If you have a stressful life taken care of sick parents on a fixed income or whatever the case may be they they will ruin your week month after month after month stealing your money. They probably make the whole coorps payroll on screwing over the low income with fraudulent fees.. Update... I received a call today from Tim with management/ vice president and was definitely impressed. He wanted to make things right and took the time to prove it. He followed up through out the day and even solved my dispute via phone saving me a trip and allowing me to tend to other priorities for my sick mom. He, unlike the other staff I delt with was genuine and really took the time to understand. Thank you Tim.. Very disappointed..they have no perks.. 30 dollars overdraft fees and no way to transfer money without 3 day wait or even do an external transfer..ridiculous with todays technology and many of the staff is under qualified and very apathetic to customers time and needs.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Aaron from the loan department. Originally I had wanted a personal loan to pay off a Cc with a much higher interest rate. Aaron reviewed my Credit report and recommended that I consolidate two Ccs and have one simple monthly payment. Not only will this save me a lot of money, but it will also be extremely convenient as I was able to set up an automatic payment from my account so I dont even have to mess with it. Great advice and his customer service was outstanding. He kept me informed and walked me through the entire process. Thank You Aaron. You and the rest of the team are the reason I have been a loyal customer for over 35 years.

Nothing but great things. They never made me feel like a bother, or that I was asking for too much. I recently closed on an auto loan with FreeStar, and it was the best experience I ve ever had in lending. Make it easy on yourself, and ask for Adele Stallworth. I been a member of FreeStar Financial for 3 years. I also been building a good relationship with them I felt. I have 8 accounts with them to build a good credit history 2 auto loans one for 50,000 dollars an one for 25,000 dollars. Long story short I apply for a Home Equity Loan an was approval base on my appraisal on my home, appraisal came back great. I paid my appraisal fee and was in under writing waiting for a closing date. After I told my family I was approved I had to tell them the bad news. They told me I wasn t able to get the loan because of back taxes on the property that was about 6,000 dollars which I was in a payment plan for. I paid the back taxes with my own money thinking that could hold the loan up plus my appraisal fee that was 500 dollars now I m out of 6500 hundred dollars for nothing before the loan was rejected. My Home Equity Loan was less then the cars I have finance with them my credit score is in the mid 600 hundreds it s amazing how they will fiancé cars but won t Loan me money on a home, everyone needs a home cars loose value soon as u drive them off the lot it just doesn t make sense. When u meet the requirements on top I have 60,000 dollars in ur banking institution.

I was a member here for several years and was sad to leave but I moved so I needed something closer to home. I closed all of my accounts out just to receive a letter 1 month later saying I owed over $180. The person never closed out my account and after talking to the manager there he told me I would still have to pay them $28 even though it wasnt my fault. I explained I just got over covid and didnt have the time or money to drive an hour out of my way at the time to pay it. They reported my account to collections and made it more difficult to find a bank that would take me in. They have no empathy even when the mistake was their fault. I would never recommend this bank to anyone.

I have been a member for years and joined because I was sold on the benefits. This credit union is a joke. Im withdrawing my money and closing this account. Everything is so difficult, they deny loans just because based on what underwriter is reviewing it.

Do not bank here. This isnt a credit union this is a place that tries to strong arm you and try to consolidate your car loans when one loan isnt an issue. They charge fees on everything and try to regulate what deductible you can have when purchasing your full coverage insurance. They make changes to your account without even telling you. They prevent you from using ATM deposits because per them its the policy when car loan past due, yet you trying to deposit money to pay it. The staff act entitled and privileged. The only staff members that are nice and consistent are Kevin, Ashley, and Rachel. I suggest you never do business with them because during the COVID-19 while everyone was working and assisting they were seeking ways on how to make members suffer. No customers no establishment. Please do not bank with them.

They approved me for car loan when no one else would because I had 0 credit. Ive it with them for 4 years now. Ended up moving a hour and a half away and I thought itd make things difficult but their website was very easy to use, and ive now paid all of it off never missing one payment. I literally just paid it off

Beware, they do hard credit checks when you try to open an account. And they are incompatible with all types of money apps. (Cashapp, samsung pay, etc) and the check in lady is the rudest person ive ever encountered in a bank, she stares you up and down as if you are there to rob the bank with her nose turned up

Customer for several decades and needed to have chargebacks done on unauthorized charges. They do not have anything to take care of this after working hours. When calling them Saturday night and following the prompts to get to card services I was told they couldnt do anything and I would have to wait until Monday and call the office directly to get my money back. Now in a hard spot financially thanks to poor services available to clients.

This financial institution is horrible. The members are rude. Our Acct was hacked and they made me pay the fraudulent moneys. Then we tried to change the numbers on the account but it took ny noney being fraudulently taken for them to react. Long story short this place will rip u off!!!!!!!

my credit union! The staff are awesome! Their online banking and mobile app were recently updated and are so much better! I love how the app is branded with the credit union s name and colors. Both are very clean and easy to use. I m also enjoying the new feature of viewing my credit score online AND on the app. Great job FreeStar Financial!!!!

Horrible customer service. The online and app are so dated. They had to take the entire system off line to do the new update. Cannot log-in and phone WILL NOT EVEN CONNECT. When we did mortgage, they reduced my credit score 100 points. Avoid!!!!!

The only problem I have is with the mobile deposits. I was told it would be available in two hours after the bank opens. I deposited my check at midnight. its noon, twelve hours later, and not posted yet.

I highly recommend this credit union and mrs cherish helped me so much!! I sware I asked her at least 30 questions she answers them al and took good care of my husband and I!
