Mountain America Credit Union - Mesa: Southern Avenue Branch

This review is going to be forwarded to local news agencies and hopefully spread throughout social media.. I have two issues with this company. The first is I have been a victim of selective enforcement and was not allowed a service that has been allowed by others (people I know). And it was the Branch Manager who enforced it. The second issue is fraudulent transactions on my account..

I have only been with Mountain America Credit Union since December 2023 .. since then my main checking account has been compromised 3 times with fraudulent transactions.. I’ve never had issues with other banks with fraud.. let alone 3 times in less than a year.

As far as the selective enforcement… It seems so trivial because all I wanted was some coins.. $100 in nickels .. They said they didn’t have any for “me”. I had gotten some from them a few weeks earlier .. and maybe a month before that as well.. Anyway they said they didn’t have enough and they only order so much.. I then asked if I could order some.. which I personally know people who have ordered coins from MACU .. After I made that request, the teller was clearly caught off guard and paused for a second.. She then went into the Branch Manager’s office for about 10 mins.. when she returned she said only business account owners could order coins.. I told them that I knew people who ordered coins here, and said I could down the road to CHASE BANK and fill my request without even being a member..

The Branch (Manager) with I have his card and won’t post his name (yet). Made it a point to enforce a policy selectively on ME !!

At this point, I don’t even feel welcome at that location.. and there aren’t many around..

I have a loan with the bank or I’d leave them completely.. In the meantime I will be opening an account at a different bank and keep my contact with MACU to a minimum.

In the meantime, this will be sent out to various media outlets.. and I may even look into litigation.. So frustrating and belittling at the same time..

I’ve been a big bank customer most of my life but I’m finally free of big banks and a loyal customer of MACU. This branch is my local branch and I frequently do my business here. I have been in 7 or so times over the last 6 months and every time I go, I am always impressed at the high level of customer service, the knowledge of each rep and their recommendations for other ways I can save money. This is night and day from the past bank visits which were usually annoying, long and often unhelpful. I was there last week with a list of four things I needed to accomplish. Scott was my teller and he walked me through each request and got me on my way in a quick and efficient manner. More proof that MACU is unlike other financial institutions and a gem for anyone looking for a new bank. I highly recommend MACU and this branch in particular. We needed help with some title changes and a Notary to document signatures. Sale involved three people and two deposits as well as printed Bill of Sales for the parties involved. The person helping us could not have done any better. She was expedient and exceptional in helping serve our transactions in a timely manner.

I have been with Mountain America since 2008, when I had enough of the low-grade peasant treatment I've received from the big banks. I had not a single bad experience with Mountain America since the day I opened an account. I love this Credit Union. No matter what the requests or issues I had, they helped getting it resolved. They are simply the best.

This place is concerning that my membership requires me to be a member and support the Arizona Parent Teacher Association. I looked at the APTA and they support counseling and medical care without parent knowledge or consent. I also notice they are using pronouns at this branch. I dont think we should support taking Parent rights for important decisions for their children. I was not allowed to open a account. It would seem that they may be activists, and most people dont know what they are supporting. It could be just this branch but the main office did decline to open an account for me. I opened an account across the street rather easily.

WORST BANK YOU CAN DEAL WITH .MY HUSBAND WAS INTERESTED IN A WORK VAN THAT WAS OFFERED BY A INDIVIDUAL THAT HAD THE LOAN WITH THIS BANK ,ITS BEEN 3MONTHS THIS WORK VAN HAS BEEN SITTING IN OUR POSITION!! In a DEMENTED GREED DRIVEN country, where med negligence/malpractice dominates health CARE from HEALING us CPs, OME THING REMAINS TRUE, THESE PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY BEEN HELPING TAKE CARE OF ME SINCE I WALKED IN. But THAT Dr & others in LA & TX NEVER pursued past outer visuals imaging & NEVER ONCE inside bones at CNS to see if being SEVERED! ONE DAY, UNKNOWN WHEN but everyday movements worsens stenosis and its either paralyzed there DOWN (neck & at waist for me) OR...instant death! All for insurance money! Prolonging Intractable DDCP! And HOW HUNANe is this!? ONE THING YOU WONT REGRET, IS THESE PEOPLE RIGHT HERE!

Called to set up account for a new auto loan and to become a member of this credit union. Unfortunately their automated service bot wouldn t connect me with a real human after repeatedly asking for a representative. If you want real interactions then don t use this credit union. I would recommend going with desert financial or even the navy simply based off their rates, customer service, and good reviews.

Very unprofessional. A friend of mine went in to open a checking account and they claimed she had a fake id (it was real) called the police on her for no reason. Police proved her ID was real and no one in the bank even apologized. The mfka that called the police name is Erica. She needs to be fired ASAP. We ll be handling this bank.

I had the pleasure of working with Kaani Karim on a loan after having a horrific time of multiple Bait & Switch with SoFi. Boy do they suck!! Kaani at Mountain America CU was recommended to me and made this loan process easy, as loans go, and delivered what she promised. I felt from beginning to end that she understood the stress and frustration I was under from the other nightmare of a company /rep, then went the exact opposite direction. Have always recommended Mountain America but if you encounter this location you won t want to recommend to anyone. I started at this location but it has just gone down hill in the last 4 years. I have a business account and 3 personal accounts. Which shouldn t matter but maybe this branch should treat their members a little better. Maybe higher management should look into this problem. I have already called once about this problem no change.

Went to them for an RV loan for $47,000 but got my application denied. I have great credit score, make over $100,000/yr, have zero debt, have >$75,000 in saving. After providing my W-2s and recent paystubs they denied my application because I plan on traveling. What else do you do with an RV?! Unreal! They hand out loans to people WAY less qualified than I am. Going to Desert Financial that has always treated up great.

I procured a HELOC loan from the branch in Mesa, AZ. The process went smoothly and Caitlin was a gem to work with. The one day she was not available, Courtney stepped right in to serve our needs. I needed the HELOC funds on a short timeline and they worked diligently to get them to me on time. Well done, MACU.

The people working at this bank either need to go to school or learn how to read and provide any information with details and also needing to make sure that they are correct about it. I talked to 3 different people 2 told me the exact same answer but the 3rd told me something very different that apparently came from a manager. Yall need to make sure your staff goes back to school, you are dealing with people credit and money at least make sure they know how to do their job!

We walked into the Southern Avenue Branch to speak with a loan officer. Kaani greeted us and assisted us in clarifying our RV loan details. She made the right calls, got everything confirmed and spoke to the RV dealer about making the purchase happen...all in the same visit. We arent officially members now but will be and are looking forward to it! This is how banking should be. Thank you sooo much!!

Ive been with macu for many years now. It was honestly not a choice it was macu taking my student loan but having no locations around me at all (they had 2 locations at the time) . Then I moved to the east valley and they became my bank. 1st I will say the general customer service at the Utah center used to be lacking, but their rates, services and in person experience was always stellar. I have no issues in the recent expansion which says a lot. I had switched over fully to them as my full time bank. So over the last year I had been trying to change my auto loan over to them and I couldnt do it then but I was able to now because the market and not only did I have the best experience with Aaron fielding and tori Bartholoew I could not recommend taking your business here enough. Every bank wants your loan. They want your interest payment but I never feel like that with macu. I hope this reaches some higher upper big dig guys because Aaron was so efficient so helpful and I learned not everyone gets a survey to fill out. I did not get one for him. But he was top notch.

Worst bank ever! Called 5 times in one day to verify a check and they cant seem to figure out how to do there job. Wasted a complete day on hold over 5 hrs of phones calls and guess what they locked there doors 5 mins before 6.... Closing my account and canceling the 8 grand in checks I deposited!

Im not sure if this is the branch I was dealing with but overall my experience with Mountain America was a complete nightmare. I applied for a student loan for medical school which I start my Respiratory Therapist program in 2 weeks and they were not helpful at all!!! They were all over the place with my application and it took days for me to get a hold of someone to help me with this loan. Also when I tired to add my grandmother as a co-signer they totally downed played it and convinced her not to do it! This experience was very stressful for me since i start school so soon. I was to a point where I canceled everything with this company and I will definitely not recommend this place if youre trying to get a loan for education. They obviously done cherish the value of students trying to make a difference.

Well I put it a car loan app and recieved 1 phone call about it which I missed, since they called at such a weird hour. They left a vm and i called this location to speak to someone and there was such a long wait for someone to pick up. Well the automaticed system said theyd call me back. 3 days later no call and I still dont have an answer on my car loan? I was expecting an answer days ago as Im currently careless. Looks like Ill be going elsewhere. I currently have a car loan with you guys and an acct but Ill be closing that acct very soon.

I have had numerous strokes, parts of my brain removed, had my organs signed away and have been considered a warm corpse. Despite being completely disabled with great cognitive deficits from this, the people at this branch take care of me every time. Thank you everyone there! You have my trust.

Great experience! MACU is one of the few financial institutions that will loan on vehicles with restored/rebuilt titles. She was personable, knowledgeable, displayed great follow-up skills, and presented every opportunity MACU had to to save me money with lower loan and credit card rates. So ingnorant and one month later, this sad credit union tried to deposit the same check again (3rd time) in my account! My bank talked about them being dim witted and unprofessional and put a red flag on any future transactions from them.

Brad, no wait.... Kyle Brown is an awesome guy. Today I went to open a Business banking account and was supprised at how easy it was. Kyle helped me get in and out within an hour. Even with the little time we had spent working together to get this thing opened, he was very informative and helpful in more ways than one. He was able to answer any questions I had, like wait what does that mean, or how do I get that, and he even helped me square my debit account away as well. If you need a banking person who will actually listen to you and not spit out regular legal jargen, Kyle is the person to see. I recommend checking out Mountain America just to see how you might be able to save money. I know I did.

I have always received exceptional service here. They have always shown in action that they truly care about their customers. I also referred a friend of mine to MACU. A couple days later he came to me with a big smile on his face and told me that he was able to get a new auto loan and refinance his existing one with a better rate! Never have I felt so welcome as at MOUNTAIN AMERICA CREDIT UNION. I am going to tell all my friends to join here and put all there money in savings and checking at Mt America. It seems like every time I call this location I have to call multiple times for anybody to answer, representatives ALWAYS try to push me off and onto the customer service line and it seems like we have to jump through a million hoops every tax season when the cosigner on my student loan requests information. The employees are usually nice but how far does kindness really go if Im not getting the service I need?

I went to Mountain America C.U. for auto loan, worked with Jason, got a great rate, he helped with doing some credit card consolidation which will save me money. Very nice staff, will probably switch my checking account to this company.

Very nice individuals here. Even though their system was slow, they were helpful and relatively quick about it! They got the job done with another CU in the area couldnt even point me in the right direction. I am only giving 4 stars because they seem to be rather slow every time I go in, and its like theyre training, but its been EVERY time, so that doesnt seem right to me.

Kyle recently helped me with a loan, It was straight forward, The best rate and term I found and by far the easiest to deal with! I dont want rate this again, as I have done once, but I am not sure who else to contact at this point. I have not heard anything back from Escalation team regarding my refinance. The Credit was pulled for the second time and no one discussed the results with me. I sent the Bank Manager an email asking what the situation is and no response from anyone. Can someone please look into this. I am the one who had an error in Credit report and after it was lifted, the credit score went up to Excellent Status. Thanks you

My experience has been really very good. I should call out that my pre-owned car loan was 100% handled by Patricia Holder, who I cant say enough good things about. As an out-of-state CA buyer, my situation was a bit unusual and not without its warts, but Patty made everything very comfortable for me from the get go. She was super responsive with all documents and in answering my questions, working weekend mornings and late after hours to deliver documents and updates. Especially so as we hit a hard bump in the process, Patty was incredibly responsive and compassionate and kept everything on track, for which I am so grateful. Thank you Patty & MACU!

I have to give the bank a 3, their branch manage Connie Good is awesome. But this bank only pulls the credit from one credit bureau (Experian). So, you better make sure you credit has no errors like mine did. At the time, I found an error in Experian, which my credit score from a Good to an Excellent. I called the bank back for a possible refinance with a better rate and I have not heard from them yet with the results, but I was wondering it would have been more convenient if they would use all 3 credit score instead of just one.

Everyone is very friendly and attentive when you walk in to the branch. However, don t ever call the service center or let them transfer you because you will be on hold forever. I called the service center multiple times in a day only to be left on indefinite hold. I ve never had such horrible customer service from s financial institution.

Got pre-approved for a vehicle loan and when the owner wanted to close last minute we ran in to this branch with only 15 min till closing time. Nancy and Pat were stellar at getting everything squared away. Nancy was friendly and efficient. She seriously was a paperwork ninja and stayed with us 20 min after close to finish up. I really appreciate her happy can do attitude. She s an asset to this branch!

This place is horrible. I went to get a car loan from them and Brendan who helped me sent me over to car dealer ship they work with to get a car. I bought a car there ford 2014 focus. When i bought the car they said there was nothing wrong with it and it just had been serviced. A day later im driving the car and its jerking A LOT. I called and told the dealership and they told me it was normal but i can take it to their mechanic to have it looked at. I took it to his mechanic and he would absolutely not look at the car for me and told me over thats how the car is. The car got worse and i got tired if it so tried to take it back and the dealership would not take it because they said the car was completely fine. So after that i go to the credit union to talk to them and they said Theres nothing they can do until i get the car actually looked at and diagnosed and everything will be covered after that. I took it to the a ford dealer ship and turns out the clutches in the transmission are bad and need to be replaced my warranty company will not cover it because the credit union put on my agreement in the fine print that pre existing issues are not covered. The bank did not tell me this when i bought the warranty. When i talked to Brendan after all the issues, he knew that this was on my agreement and chose not to let me know even after he told me everything will be fine and covered if there really is something wrong with my car. AND THERE IS AND NOW THEY WONT FIX IT FOR ME. The car dealership and those people at the credit union were working together. THEY BOTH screwed me over. These people knew what they were doing. They shouldnt be referring people to begin with because of issues like this. how was i suppose to know this was a pre existing issue when the car dealership i got it from told me over and over that it was fine. They had to have know that there was something wrong with it cause they even said they would drive it. They knew they were selling me a messed up car.

Do not go here, if you lose your card and you do not use your account for about a month or two they will not let you get another debit card for a few weeks until there are deposits into the account but you cant make a deposit unless you have a debit card!! DO NOT GO HERE, this bank is terrible

Very good service! Kyle was super friendly and knowledgable in helping my friend get out of title loan burden. Very clean facility only thing I would recommend is having some bottles for the customers but thats just because Im thirsty haha Honestly its great here!

I love this bank just open an account on Halloween in mesa location do not remember the name but her costume was batman she was very nice very helpful and i go every Monday to make a deposit and everyone is very nice as i walk in i get hi how are you and everyone with a big smile Ive had other banks but now i have just one thank you!!!! And i even got mu brother to get an account and he haaaattteeees banks and he said he loves it

I applied for a loan and was turned down, really no problems, I accepted without any resent, they did a good job researching, but then a week later I get a call asking if I was still interested in the loan. I can tell I really had my hopes up, but once we spoke I had reminded them they turned me down and this was not a game to me to get my hopes ups. I am great full of what they do and I completely understand, but to tease me to just kick me again is hurtful.

We were insulted behind our backs about our financial situation by two bankers today. Super unimpressed with the lack of professionalism here. It is never okay to comment on people in a rude manner! A couple day later we received a call from the branch manager. She handled it fairly well so I am bumping my scoring up to two stars.

This is our first time using a credit union. Happy it was Mountain America Credit Union. We received outstanding service from Kathlyn. The Mesa location is warm and friendly, it looks great and you dont feel like a number. We opened a bank account and secured a car loan there. Cant say enough about them. Connie runs a tight, but warm ship. Were very happy and look forward to great personal and business relationship with Mountain America.

I will open by saying...wow...what a breath of fresh air...being raised a bit old fashioned, it was an absolute pleasure being greeted by smiling humans rather than the dreaded machines... The mesa branch is alive...friendly...and knowledgeable..oh and have I said wow yet?...they also know what they are doing and you are treated not only as customer but a member...you are NOT a number here like you may be at some of those mega banks out there...mega banks...mega fees...mega profits for them...thank you MACU...I am transferring all my banking to you...oh and wow!

We went in on a recommendation by two RV dealers. We are already seven year members with another credit union in the Valley. When we waked in, we received acknowledgement from several of the employees and a big smile from, who we later would find out was Connie (who was in a meeting with two employees), the branch manager. We came in to find out about getting a loan for a motorhome we wanted to purchase. We were helped by Nancy who was very friendly and within a short time, we walked out as new motorhome owners. Nancy also explained about the benefits of joining Mountain America Credit Union which for us were many compared to our C.U. We are going to switch over all of our banking to Mountain America Credit Union now. Thank you for your friendliness and care.

Take forever to finalize an application. Have been calling their office for almost two hours and no one can pick up the phone. Even corporate called the branch several times and no one pickes up. Very unreliable branch!

Currently have a loan with this bank. Over the last few months I have made the payments a few days early. I later found out that they have been taking that early payment as an extra payment and not my monthly payment. I did not realize this until I checked my credit report and because of them my credit has dropped over 60 points. Have tried calling to get them to fix it as I have NEVER missed a payment but they say they will take care of it and call me back. I do NOT get call backs. Please avoid this bank!!!!!

I really like this CU but, I find they are not very responsive to calling back. I waited several times for a call back for some information, that to me, was very important. TO THEM not so important !! NO IT WAS NOT IN THE LAST WEEK !!! LAST YEAR: YES.
